Do you have time for people with a low IQ?

Whilst at university I had a summer job in a warehouse and this was the only time I have spent any amount of time with really dim people.

They were nice enough people but how they handled disagreement was very childlike, bitchy and mean. Substance and gambling addictions were rife and I've never heard people openly talk about hiring prositutes before or since.

I felt sorry for them that they had to endure such a terribly boring and monotonous job, with no hope of being able to do anything else.

I could only hack it for 6 weeks it really was dreadful.
Not sure that's exclusive to less intelligent people. Also I'm pretty sure many people will be doing that particular job they don't like and then make a change for something better, so I wouldn't say no hope.

Funny you should say that.
I worked at Creda/Hotpoint for 27 years with 1000s of people and obviously we had some quite dim workers but like I said above they would have an expertise in something.
In 2007 the factory shut down and the Dole Office set up a Careers Office in the factory.
On my first interview I was asked if I needed help with reading & writing and asked the interviewer "Why?", apparently 70% of our workforce were illiterate.
On leaving the interview I walked to the boards with jobs on to see one of my workmates having trouble.
It turned out he was illiterate and I said "I've watched you do your horses for over 20 years with no problem" and he just said that he could read past form, knew what the odds meant and visually copied the horses name to a piece of paper.

I've met more dumb people since leaving the special school system than when I was there.

I grew up with a friend from infant school and when we both moved to secondary school his mental challenge began to show. It seems like some peoples intelligence stops at a certain age. It was quite upsetting for me when I realised what was happening, as I was continuing to grow up and be in to more mature content (mainly computers) yet he never matured mentally past 12 years old. He's the same age as me now. But he still acts like he's 12 years old, and I think he thinks that I'm the same age in how he talks to me. It's like he's stuck at that point in life.

I find most people annoying but I feel it has less to do with my above average intelligence and more to do with the fact that people are just annoying generally.

There are no observable differences with intelligence across your interactions, you are instead describing manners and mental issues.

I do not see any difference in intelligence between groups fitting into 20k, 40k, and 60k salary, past 60k i don't have enough interactions.

So what that means is that there is hope for everyone because while you cannot improve intelligence, you can improve everything else.

I accept that on reflection that there were a great many mental issues in this warehouse as described in my post.

However, I maintain that this place was populated with lower iq people. I don't wish to go into specific interactions, but recall that after the first day I resolved not to correct anyone as I didn't want to be.

I have also worked across a broad range jobs - warehouse, pubs, civil service, chemical engineering and would agree that the "middle" is a large indiscernible l group with only the ~10% of either end being noticeably different.

The job in question was very well paying for what it was, likely to retain staff to keep recruitment costs down.

Everyone (this is not an exaggeration) hated it but couldn't leave as they were trapped by the inflated wage.

I don’t care. IQ is not something that I think about or consider while interacting with people on a day to day basis, as it doesn’t serve any purpose for me.

This talk about IQ reminded me of this video. I won’t give away too much, but the premise is that 6 strangers rank themselves from lowest to highest IQ.
Enjoy.

I only speak with people with an IQ of less than 70

I read a 1960s fiction book called Flower for Algernon and it said in there that a low IQ is an IQ under 70. It used the term "mental retardation" which I think is out-dated and would now be called a learning disability?

Normal intelligence is 85-115 then it drops off outside of that range.

List of what you should and shouldn't say, bit bemused by some of them -

Family Guy don't give a crap
