Do you like where you live?

The way my work is going, I could get a move to Norway though. Not gonna be any better off tax wise. And would be much worse off house wise. And general cost wise. However, the increased "standard of living" elsewhere might make the sacrifice worth it.
You might pay more tax in Norway, but you get public services and healthcare that work and a far happier population.

I'm at odds with where I live because I'm a northerner who had to move south after uni for work, I never properly felt at home here. The area itself has pros and cons, fairly low crime, very expensive housing. Lots of new houses so services are lacking. The people are nice but tend to keep to themselves. Ideally I'd live by the sea due to allergies, maybe one day.

Yes. Richmond is mint and it’s got great travel links to central London which is also mint unless you’re a miserable hermit who never does anything.

Location wise I’d probably not swap for anywhere else in UK but would consider plenty of other places outside UK if they were viable.

Hi (kind of) ex neighbour! I used to live in Thames Ditton and would go through Richmond Park each morning on my way to work in Chiswick. I fell into someone's garden one time after the rugby - perhaps it was yours!

Yeah, Surrey is alright.

I’ve lived in the grim North, the forgotten South and London in my life and this is the longest I’ve stayed anywhere.

South East pricing is just mental but it’s nice being 35min from London and within an hour to two major airports.

I’d change it in a heartbeat if I could but happy enough.

(ex) Neighbour! We lived by Kelvingrove Park 2005-2009 before we came over here. I loved Glasgow. The bawbags can get tae, though.
Walked past Kelvingrove Park last evening en route to The Grove pub. Left my brolly in there before meandering to The Ben Nevis.

Edinburgh based just outside Holyrood Park. It's pretty great. I know weather can be a bit of a pain, but it's a great little city, easy to get around. I use an e-bike for almost all my commuting. Plenty of decent food options, lovely architecture, the festival on your doorstep every August. Born and raised in Dublin, which I still visit every year and it's such a nightmare for public transportation as opposed to here.

I live in a former mining village which is classed as a deprived area, however after living in Splott* (in Cardiff), everywhere else seems quite swanky.

Ha, my partner when we first met was living in Splott. It was an interesting area, for lack of a better description. I understand why she was keen to get away!

I live in Bristol and basically echo @Nitefly's comments. I think it depends which part of Bristol you're from but I love it. I don't think I'd want to live south of the river, though. I currently have Snuff Mills (dodgy name, nice place) backing onto my rear garden which has been really nice for being able to take the dog out on woodland walks on a lunch break/evening.

Moving slightly further up the road to Frenchay which is more or less the same. A place masquerading as a little village but still has exceptional choices to eat on Deliveroo/UberEats etc. Just missing a little high street but that's a 5 minute drive or 15 minute walk.

I like where a live, a little village on the outskirts of greater Manchester.

10 mins away from the M6, easy to hop on the train to Manchester, bus to Warrington, or drive to Chester.

Loads of jogging and bike routes in the countryside, but that gets same-same after a while.

Can’t stand some of the people that live in the village. Letting their dog **** everywhere, kids thinking that they are gangsters or just general being a PITA.

We have a housing issue in the area, but rather doing what most people expect to do, which is to move out… get a job and housing near that job, then one day, if they want to.. buy a house in the area and move back. Some people rather sit on their butts and complain that they still have to live at home with their parents while posting on fb asking for any jobs in the area.

The Grove was our local! There as an unfortunate moment in The Ben Nevis when my (Kiwi) wife asked them to add coke or lemonade (I forget which) to a very expensive and delicious whisky we'd ordered. They were polite enough to pretend they didn't hear it :)

I lived in Totterdown (south of river) for a few years which was very quirky and fun, but definitely not ‘bang for your buck’ when it comes to house size! Was really handy as I worked near temple meads station at the time (10 minute walk).

I’m now based up around Horfield / Henleaze and I think it’s basically perfect. 10 minute drive to Cribbs, 10 minute walk to Gloucester Road, 10-15 minute drive / bus to town (when no traffic!), close to M4 etc… genuinely can’t think of anything that annoys me.

I was driving to Bath yesterday via Keynsham / Saltford etc and all I could think was how much of a pain in the ass it must be to live around there. Absolutely miserable traffic pinch points…!

Yes. We have great travel links into central London and beyond, good neighbours and Kew Gardens a couple of miles away so can't complain.

Its alright, im not right in the city, im on the edge, i love the area i live in, i have been there about 10 years now, very friendly area, easy access to the city, easy access to the motorway, good connection towards bristol as a second city

I guess the train is better these days (electrified) if i did want to hop on and go to say london from Cardiff.

the number of oppotunities in london though is probably far greater , although expensive to live,

Yes. Lived here all my life. Family goes back at least 3 generations.

I know everywhere in the town. From backstreets to back alleys.

My town is one of the lucky ones to still have the small town feel were everyone knows each other.

I have noticed crime as increased in the last 10 years. Growing up in the 80s here there was hardly any crime.

The country is going downhill.

We probably lived quite close to one another as I lived in Totterdown between late 2016 until 2019. Lived on Bathwell Road, which as the name suggests was between Bath road and Wells road! I wasn't a huge fan of the area but it was close to my job at the time in Bedminster.

Was within walking distance to a great Chippy and Cafe though!

We go up to Blaise Castle fairly often for a dog walk and I do really like Henleaze. You got that cool little independent cinema as well. Though not 100% sure if it's still there? Would be a shame if it went! My Ex and I used to live in Clifton, not far from the Triangle on Bellevue, and it was only a short drive to Scott Cinemas.

It's funny you say that about Keynsham. My partner (who if i remember correctly you were at the Art Battle event that she won?) has started doing Sip and Paint events at The Lock Keeper and she always complains about the drive there.

I do love Bristol though. It's just the right mix of city and countryside. Never too far away from a field. Though I'd be a liar if I didn't say I was really disappointed with our city centre. Broadmead and the Galleries are just depressing and feels like a life time ago I'd be excited to go into town and go to The Gadget Shop or something.

Sadly this sums up our city centre

I think the only other place I could move to would be London. I always love visiting there but I am aware it's probably a totally different experience living vs visiting for leisure.

North Bristol and would move to the countryside near the coast if was an option. Air quality is awful, traffic varies getting to where we need to go. Area used to be nice but is swamped by cars blocking pavements (2 to 4 cars per house is not uncommon). Increasing number of antisocial tools too (drugs and road users).

Plus sides are we know our direct neighbours well and get on well with most. Easy access to M5/Cribbs. Not far from B.R.I Hospital (and previously the Children's Hospital before our son transferred over due to age).

Parking in town is a massive pain but at least we don't have the worry of being hours from home when he is admitted. His social/day centre is easy to reach for appointments and if they need us to check on him (subject to aforementioned road works).

We also have the joy of at least 9 months of roadworks on the A4 Portway for work on the Park and Ride junction, so that will be fun :p.

Lol I never realised so many Bristolians were on here.

I work in Avonmouth so I have the joy of the M32/M4/M5 each day but I don't envy you having to brave the Portway home! Tried it a few times when the traffic was bad but I think I'd take my chances on the motorway again
