Looks to be a few of us over this side of the world!Neighbour!
We're in Pt Chevalier, near the Zoo and MOTAT. My memory is awful - are you the chap who ran the restaurant further up north or was that someone else?

Honest question, are you not aware of how Dubai was built, it's ongoing human rights issues, how it is maintained by imported workers who are barely paid (if at all), how badly treated certain minorities are treated, how corrupt the government is... oh and the small matter of ending up in jail for doing the "wrong thing" in the eyes of certain religious laws like this British boy.I'm on holiday in Dubai for a week.
Honestly it puts the UK to shame.
Perfect thread for how I feel today.

The place is pristine.
There isn't a single piece of litter on the floor not even a fag end. There isn't a single bit of graffiti anywhere. The main roads are 12 lanes wide and not a single pothole or sunken manhole on any of them. There are even double deck roads in some places, one carriage way on top of another. I haven't seen a single deteriorated building. Not a single dodgy looking chav or group hanging around. There isn't a single broken street sign or non working street lamp. The metro is modern and cheap, they built it on elevated track above the roadway. There's green areas everywhere and not a single weed or flower out of place. Every single sign or building name or business name is jointly in English and Arabic.
The UK will not survive. It will deteriorate and deteriorate because anyone with a choice surely would come here or other places around the world rather than the UK.
We visited New Zealand and East Australia last year and did north and south islands - I'd move out there tomorrow if I could! Like Scottish Highlands on speed! Beautiful.Yep. I live in a small village in Selwyn, NZ. About 25km outside Christchurch, NZ. Currently back visiting the UK and while I'm enjoying the sight seeing, it's unlikely we'll live here again. The wife and daughter think its a complete dump, but I wouldn't go that far. I could do a year or two somewhere like Edinburgh, but as I said, unlikely at this stage.
Where we live in NZ it's super safe, quiet, decent weather, we know all our neighbors. Downsides is that it's a pain to fly anywhere. Although having spent some time in the UK and Europe the past 5 weeks, I don't see a need to come this way again soon.
