Do you like where you live?

They're invasive and basically wiped out our native species. I don't think I have ever seen a red squirrel with my own eyes.

Think the only place they have as a safe haven, for now, is Anglesey and that's only because you have to cross a bridge to get there.

So yeah, it sucks but the grey ones are up to no good.

Come and live where I live, you'll see them :-)

Though a bit of a drive there is a surprising amount of nice areas and "hidden gems" in the ~30 miles or so as the crow flies surrounding Southampton.
Yep, many drool over The New Forest, but without a car the cycle through near the city centre just isn't worth the hassle for me (plus I've always found non-hilly riding quite dull, even now with long covid).

I love it in the area around Warnford and Petersfield late spring to mid autumn, but through winter it can be very gusty on the ridge if it's not wet and cold too.

It's nice around Longleat and Mendips, but not so nice in the winter months.

You might pay more tax in Norway, but you get public services and healthcare that work and a far happier population.
This is my thinking to be fair. Althhough I'd have to move to Stavanger, which wouldn't be my first choice to be honest.

Just got back after a week in Spain. First impression on returning to blighty OH MY GOD ITS DARK its like entering the pit of Hades. Secondly JESUS IT'S COLD. Thirdly CHRIST THE ROADS ARE CONGESTED BEYOND ALL MEASURE I only encountered one traffic jam in spain and that was the road leading to the airport ok its off season but the roads are soooo much less busy.

Someone give me a job near Malaga, please. I'll be off like a shot. Sooo much better quality of life so many eateries for reasonable prices and the locals are friendly.

So that would be a no, then.

Hello wonderfuls!

Statement: I like where we live. It is pleasing.

Background: I live in Auckland, it has an urban population of about 1.5m people. It is the most populous city of New Zealand and the fifth largest city in Oceania (thanks Wiki!). We moved here from the UK in 2009 and it is the single best major life decision we made. Negatives? Loads of them! Nowhere is perfect* but I'd put my just-made-up-right-now-satisfaction-scale at about 95%. Life is good, my wife and kids' lives are good, and I think a lot of that is to do with where you are **

Question: Do you like where you live? Elaborate in your own time.

Thank you.

* apart from being in @Freefaller's arms. Je ne regrette rien.
** it's too early/late for metaphysical questions on what 'are' means, let's go with the obvious, chums.

Mostly. I live south of Reading in a somewhat village type place. The main thing I like is there's forests near so I can walk for a heck of a distance when I fancy it. I'm also probably close enough to big stuff like Reading (yuck) and London (yuck) to be assured of employment. I dislike that there's never a day with low traffic (yay motorcycle).

I visited Auckland and some of north island last year though and very much liked it. I've been going through the motions of what a move would look like but what worries me a bit is employment opportunities. @[FnG]magnolia, how have you found that, or smooth sailing? I'm in the whole tech consulting world.

It's a bit dull, live in Clanfield which is just south of Petersfield where I lived most of my life, I really liked living in Petersfield but I moved over the hill (locals will understand) due to house prices, still not sure I didn't make a mistake lol. Good access to lots of stuff really though, just wish there was a pool closer to me :)

I recently moved from Stoke to Mount Pleasant.

The Falklands?

I live in one of the better areas of Aberdeen and if it weren't so far from anywhere it would be perfect. That is if the SNP and the local government officers weren't set on compounding the ruin from the oil companies winding down.

Central Bristol. Spent far too much of my life in West Berkshire which was really boring, one of my main reasons for coming back is the live music scene, so many venues with stuff on every night (at least at the moment, if the price everything keeps skyrocketing i'm sure they'll start dropping like flies which would be a real shame).

Flat is tiny and expensive but that just means there's to clean :P Happy to be here for a few years and see what the situatuon is like then, I love city life but one day it'd be nice to have a house/garden/subwoofer. Would hate to have to start driving again though.

But would need a lottery win/inheritance in order to afford it. Also the company I work for keeps expanding oversees so that could be an option.

The only bad thing is living close to the river and having to put up with the loud, druken, karaoke party boats in the summer.

I live in nice village with very low crime rates. However, everything is a drive, so sometimes miss the buzz, food and drink and convenicance of city life. But then when i visit a city, it reminds me why i hate them so much and am happy where i am living.

View from the house is fields, lovely country walks, quiet and decent neighbours.

However, a nearby town is Boston and what was once a beautiful little marketplace has now been eroded by a huge shift in the local demographic. Gone are the M&S, Downtown, designer shops, quaint cafe's etc, all replaced by Poundlands and Eastern European supermarkets. Fact, not opinion.

Probably the best area for cyclists in Hampshire, you've got essentially flat lanes to Hambledon/Finchdean/Denmead, but hills like North Lane/Hinton Manor/East Meon Rd/ Hyden Farm Lane etc. right on your doorstep and not far to get to one of the options north of Petersfield to Warren Corner or "Turkey Island" in South Harting.

There isn't a single direction out of Clanfield from my house that doesn't have a hill lol... I do live half way up one though :D

I used to spend a lot of time mountain biking up in Queen Elizabeth Country Park but my back is trashed at the moment and I only have a very old rigid bike that is way too small for me these days, one day I'll feel up to it and get a new bike and start biking again, be rude not considering it's about a ten minute ride from my front door.

I lived in Petersfield between '65 and '72. Once when visiting back in my Capri 3000E during a severe winter I became stuck in Clanfield for most of one day. I could not leave in any direction due to icy roads.

I really enjoyed Petersfield but left to work in St Helens, Merseyside in 1974 and never went back to live in Hampshire. It was my late teens biker era.

Oooof, before my time it has to be said, I've been a resident since '74 I think, I'm not entirely sure as my memories at that age are not good as I was around 3 when my family moved there, It's definitely changed a fair bit since then, mostly for the better I think :D

Yep. I live in a small village in Selwyn, NZ. About 25km outside Christchurch, NZ. Currently back visiting the UK and while I'm enjoying the sight seeing, it's unlikely we'll live here again. The wife and daughter think its a complete dump, but I wouldn't go that far. I could do a year or two somewhere like Edinburgh, but as I said, unlikely at this stage.

Where we live in NZ it's super safe, quiet, decent weather, we know all our neighbors. Downsides is that it's a pain to fly anywhere. Although having spent some time in the UK and Europe the past 5 weeks, I don't see a need to come this way again soon.

We moved to a suburb of a medium sized town (I think?) 2 years ago after our first 35 years as Londoners. So far the change of pace is great, there is room to enjoy life and we seem to have a smaller circle of businesses and friends we frequent. Just an all round easier pace.

Being dependent on a car is new to me but not awful, as driving out here is better than London. I haven't yet tried to find local work so if/when I quit the job I took moving here, I might be in for a surprise. Don't fancy commuting ever again. But the only real drawback so far is being 30 minutes from the train station. Everything else is great.

I must be a right weirdo because I like where I live...and I live in Stoke on Trent.
