Do you need force to secure a intel cpu lid down?

It did with the E8400/Abit IP35 combo until I flashed the Bios.
The latest Bios for the non pro is dated March 2008 which you can get from the Abit website.

The IP35 Pro Bios is dated 2007 (latest one available apart from Beta) but works fine with the E8400,
apart from the temp sensors are all screwed.

when I turn it on the fans spin up for a few secs, and turns off then a few secs an turns on again and just keeps looping?? and ideas???

How does he flash the bios if there's no screen output and the PC only powers on for a second?

When I tried to run the E8400 with the older Bios it just kept rebooting at startup
That sounds exactly like what is happening to speedy2004.

Cause: Mobo with stock BIOS not compatible with latest CPUs

Solution: Blag an older Core2 chip to install allowing you to boot the PC and flash the BIOS, then you can take the loaned chip out and and re-install your shiney Wolfdale.

might be something; try switching the CPU fan to another connector thingy... don't think that will do much, though...

if i was in your position, i'd RMA the mobo.

It looks like the board is being sent back, cos ive just noticed 3 of the 6 sata sockets has came off with the sata leads.. I was wondering where has all my sata sockets gone, then looked at the sata leads and there on there,,WTF

thats probably cuz the sata cables have clips on them that you have to press to release them from the sockets. you probably just yanked them out and ripped the socket out with them. lol.

Yikes. With regard to the original problem I would suggest try booting with one stick of RAM, or better still some slower RAM and seeing if it boots as it might be a case of RAM voltages being too low by default. (I'm thinking the IP35 will be defaulting to 1.8v whilst your Corsair requires 1.9v+)

Yeh I will post some pics later on this afternoon and Ive manage to get a replacement board comming monday, but this time the pro version, cos ppl say the e8400 works out of the box with the pro version. I'll be gutted if it dont work out of the box tho.

Has always been the case with the abit ip35's, boot into bios with one stick, up the voltage then shut off and put the rest in.

Thats why I dont think I will get a refund, cos it looks like I pulled out the leads without pushing in the clip, but I can asure you I did. As I said the leads came out so easy, I didnt realise the sata sockets were missing untill I came to plug the leads back in.

Looks like you haven't broken any of the SATA pins off.
Straigten them out and put the plastic tops back on.

You should have the tops they will attached to the SATA cable :)

There is no way you will get an RMA replacement with the SATA sockets in that state.
