Three years later I’m sure a lot has changed. The original split was that more people still had an optical drive than don’t. I may start a new thread and ask for a Poll.

I have a USB optical drive (read only), just in case I need some data off an old CD/DVD. This is becoming increasingly less likely though.

Lets think ....

PC (HAF932 case FTW - modern cases are rubbish) has DVD-RW , Hybrid Blu-ray/HD-DVD/DVD Rom, Bluray writer (so 3 internal drives ) and also a external Bluray rom + external xbox360 HD-DVD Rom drive
I do a lost of media transferring :)

My new case doesn't even have the 5.25" bays to house an optical drive.

I do have an external one, but hasn't been used in years.

2 per machine. Mostly DVDRW as I regularly rip batches of CDs. I have a BD-RW but it sees little use for BR tbh. When I get round to archiving my photos for backup it will come in handy.

I have a USB DVD drive in a drawer for the VERY, VERY rare time I need one. Not even sure of it's capabilities, it may be a DVDRW
yeah I have one of those too. Somewhere. That's a big somewhere... I've not seen it in a while thinking about it.

If anyone finds a sky blue Samsung USB3 DVDRW writer please can they let me know. Last seen with the laptop hub dongle that is also AWOL.

I have an external one that I bought years ago for a laptop that didn’t have one. I still use it to burn cds for the cars sometimes.
