Do you think the Coronavirus is going to drop or increase GPU prices ?

It may be quite the opposite with the Chinese wanting to offload shedloads of manufactured goods on a western market that does not have the buying power it once did.

This could cause deflation which is not a good thing either.

Having said that we are all armchair experts but the bottom line is no one knows where things are going to be in 12 months time.

My sister is part of the scientific advice panel (Imperial college) to Cobra at No.10.
She said realistically 12-18 months till we are out of this. Says there is no way out other than vaccine and thats how long it will take sadly.

You sister is incorrect.

The other way out is when enough people have had Covid 19 the virus will peter out on its own and this could all be over in less than 9 months. Unfortunately this will involve a lot of deaths and illness with the government losing control of events and not being able to cope with high spike in cases.

Thanks, I'll let her know. Maybe I could suggest the PM takes his advise from you instead? Do let me know how to get your details to her. Have you got a CV with your epidemiology qualifications on I can forward?

She, and the gov is well aware of the option of natural immunity. This would mean about 100 million deaths world wide. Over a million dead in the UK. The government does not want nor is willing to take this option. So they wont. They want to keep deaths under 50k if possible. They will supress, delay and mitigate, lockdown - release, lockdown - release and repeat until a vaccine is avalible. this is a fact and is the governments (infact ALL governments) tactic.

Lol.

I think a secondary question is will this coronavirus have effected Sony's, Microsoft's, AMD's and Nvidia's release schedules much?

If yes, by how long?

Lets be optimistic and say this is all over globally by July. Are we looking at 6 months delays to original schedules?

---

There are also strong indicators and predictions we will entire in too a recession. I doubt this will effect just the UK.

That will have an effect too.
Can't see a long delay. Details of both consoles will be fully finalised.

Delays due to shortages of components, lack of fabrication capacity, or logistics could be possible.

What circumstances would necessitate a delay of >1Q, tho?

The bottom line is between you and your sister in the original post you got it wrong by not saying there was more than one way out.

You got it wrong.

Name dropping is also a silly game, just because my cousin is a General in the South African army does not make me an expert on the military lol.

You also assume that because an old fart like me does nothing but post about graphics cards means that I know nothing about anything else.

Things like viruses have been an interest of mine probably long before you or your sister were born.

As a matter of interest what level is the Covid 19 virus classed as, for example Ebola is classed as level 4?

Edit don't bother it is a Level 2 biosafety virus.

Agreed, there are always choices. I can't see a winning one for the politicians this time. Let nature take its course and kill off a lot of the vulnerable people or total financial meltdown. Whichever way you go the press and political opponents are going to have a field day. Sadly I din't think the West has the collective will to make hard choices any more. My assessment is that everything will get a lot more expensive, GPU's, holidays and anything imported from countries that end up with stronger currencies than the Pound, Dollar and Euro. Chinese and Russian gold buying seems pretty prudent now. I think they're positioning themselves to take advantage of the huge money printing and debt in the West.

TBF,the Yuan and Ruble being too strong isn't exactly good for Chinese and Russian exports too!

Agreed, that said what other choice do we have, make the stuff ourselves? ;) We may see a bit of a role reversal in decades to come with manufacturing moving this way for cheap labour? One thing is for certain nothing ever stays the same forever and standards of living are way higher than when I was a child in the 70's. Most of that was driven by debt. I think we've peaked for now but I'd like to be wrong!

Standards of living were even worse in the 50s and 60s, I remember a child in 1963 spitting at me and hitting me in the face and the next thing I knew I had Scarlet Fever.

It was not all bad news as I had a lot of time off school.:D

Good to see you in the graphics cards forums, your input is valued and missed when it is not available.:)
Thanks Kaap. Not really been gaming much at all, although I was pretty hooked on Ori and the will of the whisps but other than that. Nadda. Been a bit of a lurker still though and I do have a laugh from time to time.

Don't know.

People like me are waiting for the new cards to drop and that is probably delayed till Q4 now I would imagine (that's when I expect high prices).
Prices may drop in Q3 to draw current stock levels down, but I guess it depends if demand craters between now and then.
Many people could lose their jobs and not have the cash to spend, who knows.
I'm at home at the moment technically working, but there is nothing much to do as everyone else has pretty much stopped as well.
