Doctor Who

Worst ratings ever (for the modern Dr Who) apparently. I can't see it lasting much longer.

They've done their virtue signalling, now its time to hire some competent writers. Because the show is just awful.

Thoughts on last nights episode (19th Jan)?

Another rushing around everywhere, revisionist history lesson and the Doctor arriving in the middle of a situation with nothing to connect the dots as to why they travelled there in the first place.

Oh well, at least they didn't mind wipe everyone at the end of the episode this time...

While it wasn't the worst episode right at the start, and I do generally like Goran Visnjic, the episode soon settled into its usual depths of utter crapness. The 'queen' reminded me of the arachnid queen from the Christmas Invasion with just as much bad acting. Absolute load of plop.

That's always happened, the TARDIS takes them where they need to be.

Rating really aren't that bad.

You might not like it but plenty of others do.

No, they are. Audience ratings are through the floor along with viewing figures. Series 10 had an audience rating of 68% on RT, currently series 12 is sitting at 13%. And for those people who dont want to use RT to gauge ratings, viewing figures have never been lower either and not just here, it's doing even worse in the US.

You are obviously tripping as viewing figures are similar to what they were during Smith and Capaldi's run.in fact Ecclestons final episode was watched by 6.9m so not that different to know. On average it fluctuates between 6-9m for each series with the specials tending to get higher figures.
Who is still getting around 25-30% of audience share which is still great and usually one of the most watched shows still.

I am not wrong, there was no Christmas special. there is a lot more to it as mentioned in the article

.There was, however, one important difference between this year's special and 2017's, and indeed most every other Doctor Who special to have aired since 2005. 'Resolution' went out on January 1, not Christmas Day, so is a like-for-like comparison perhaps not entirely fair?
If you actually look at viewing figures as a whole they have gone down year after year. Who is still getting a high audience share and is doing well. The days of 12+million figures are long gone.

I mean EastEnders used to get 30 million viewers but averages now about 7. It's the fact there are many reasons such as catch up and on demand, many channels to watch. However if a show has 25% of the actual audience then realistically it's not a bad thing.

Trying to claim the viewing figures are terrible and it needs to be cancelled is just wrong to say.

There was a special be it Xmas or NYD, and many do not like the show now and you cannot accept their opinions so yes you are in the wrong.

Do you really think someone had to be mad or on drugs to no longer like this show?

P.S I do not watch soaps (watched Neighbours when it was newer and had one of highest rating at time for the Scott & Charlene wedding Ep), IMO they are trash (esp today) but will not slate others who do enjoy them.

No again you are not understanding, viewing figures for ALL TV shows has decreased. Yes people are moaning about the show being poor but in terms of people watching it is still a decent figure. 25-30% of the audience share is good.

I mean some of Capaldi's episodes had 5million viewers. So Jodie is actually doing better now than some of his run.

I also wasn't saying soaps are good, just using that as an example of the change in viewer habits over the years

6.6 million for this year's new year special. That's not bad. Especially when you consider that over a quarter of all TV viewers were watching Doctor Who that the number of viewers doesn't really matter so much.

Like Graham Norton being a massive hit for the BBC but the recent episode only had 3.9 mill viewers, however it again had 24.6% audience share. The viewing figures aren't really important.

Of those xx million though, how many watched more in hope that it would improve but afterwards thought, what a load of tosh.

In fact you could argue the 7pm Sunday slot before Call The Midwife (which my wife watches but I retreat to the laptop!) is manipulating people into "might as well view", as what else to do beforehand on an evening when you're not watching a movie?

You are obviously tripping

Interesting..

Viewing figures for series openers arent a good metric to use as they are usually the highest for a series with average numbers being a chunk lower. Viewing figures for S11's xmas special was over 10 million by the way, so whatever way you cut it, however you want to present the figures, 4 million less people started watching this series compared to the last. And that figure is dropping episode by episode. As far as viewing figures go, it doesnt matter if viewing figures are down for all shows - that's irrelevant. What matters is how many people are watching, and the facts are as I said - figures are down and trending further and audience ratings are the worst they have ever been.

Let's not get in to slot times either as the figures being stated in this thread include online views (ie, the 6.6m Steve said watched the new years special - on the day figures were somewhere between 1 and 2 million less).
