Dodgy dell's

I had a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop and it was honestly the worst laptop I have ever used in my life. The built in bluetooth didn't work on any of the laptops in the range (major manufacturing fault). It wasn't really a deal breaker but it was a feature I was looking forward to using. After a period of time some fault would develop on the motherboard which meant that you couldn't charge the laptop at all, regardless of charger or battery being used. This also happened with lots of other people, another manufacturing fault I guess.

Other issues were over heating issues, screws randomly falling out, and the screen bezel coming off at the corners.

I have to say my laptop is a dell, I bought it when I started Uni 4 years ago now, still going strong to this day. I would NEVER touch a Dell desktop though.

My XPS 420 which I got back in 2007/8 was pretty decent. Had a Q6600 (G0), 3870x2, 2GB RAM and 500GB HDD. Was about £800 from the purple shirt shop. As I wasn't really into the hardware side of things back then, I can't comment on the value for money aspect of it. But in terms of what it had, it was pretty nifty set up.

It's main draw backs were the cheap PSU, standard 32-bit windows which made upgrading to 4GB RAM virtually pointless and the inability to OC it due to its restricted bios. But for the basics like playing COD4, Wolfenstein etc, it was excellent. The case was quite well made as well to be honest. The side panel had this locking mechanism which required a lever to be pulled back on the top of the case. After 2 1/2 years though, the card went and I upgraded the RAM and PSU as well.

Dells are not a patch on how **** the Tiny PC was that we bought in 2001. By the time it was allowed to die (in circa 2008) it had required a new hard drive and the screen had blown up.

Well to be fair, if you were doing your gaming on your console then the pc was probably just used for web browsing etc which is hardly going to be taxing on it.

It got a lot of heavy use despite no gaming and I was pretty tough on it, spilled tea, bashed it hard enough to dent the side case a few times and when I opened it last year it was full of dust but still worked fine.
