Does a 144Hz monitor make a difference

I'm currently at 50, and I'm fine with it atm. Switch to 60 when I play games. But I know as soon as I see 144, I'll want it. So I avoid it :P

I could never ever go back to 60Hz it would feel way toooo much like a downgrade! Even if i upgraded my desktop the monitor would then let it down. 120Hz ++ all the way!

+1 for 144hz, i would never dream of using it on games like GTA though, as other have said getting a high enough framerate would be nigh on impossible.

It is good for FPS such as CS:GO though, it makes my old-man reaction times less of a factor and i finally made it out of the nova league, possibly, because of it.

I have a Iiyama, after some messing with the colours it looks awesome.

Avoid it if possible till all monitor's and tv's support 100+ htz refresh rates. I game and have purposely avoided any monitor's over the std 60. Ok I'm aware I maybe missing something (well definitely) but if I see it, I'll need to replace many many many monitor's and tv's I own. I got and have ocd with audio equipment and bit rates etc etc years back and it's been a costly experience. Everyone to their own I guess but I'm happy at 60htz 1440p and 4k. I see a gsync unit and run for the hills... Ha ha.

+1

60 is the standard. Unless you have a machine powerful enough to pump out those frames at high resolution and high fps its best to stick with 60 Hz for now.

That isnt accurate.
You notice difference in windows mode also.
at my age 51 the difference is night and day.

Just recently got a BenQ XL2720Z and loving the image quality and smoothness it's brought to a lot of games.

It updates the frames quicker to the screen but if fps was low anyway isnt that a fair point, it'll just be repeating the same frame drawn already

It also didn't live up to the hype for me tbh (120hz). its nice, but if you think its going to change your life, then your going to be disappointed.

I reckon once the price of these Acer XR341CKA (34 inch curved super wide IPS 75Hz G-Sync (there's also a freesync model)) are at sensible levels that will be the best alround gaming monitor for most people.

Agreed. I've tried them all at some point and the one I have stuck with is my 34" LG Ultrawide. For me 21:9 immersion > any other current feature.

I dont think anyone would dissagree if your really into fast paced games but for the OP I dont personally think its worth it.

The Acer XR341CKA is going to be a nice but very expensive screen.
