Does anyone else find Bioshock scary?

I've just quit a 60min Bioshock session since there is only so much my heart can take. I'm at the begining of the game and just got the shotgun. The part where you pick up the gun, the lights go out with the spotlight focussed on you with the zombies in the dark circling you is the most scary thing I've seen in a game. The even drag their weapons across the floor for added scare factor

The moment the lights went off and I heard them coming, I paused the game and litteraly swore at the screen for making me go through this :p

I don't even wanna think what else lies ahead. Some people say Dead Space is even more scary.

*stares wearily at the unopened Dead Space game next to the PC*

It's tense occasionally but never scary imo. If you can't handle it i suggest you just get rid of dead space, it will probably cause you to suffer a mental breakdown :p

Meh? Dentist? I played the game until the 'plot twist' and got utterly frustrated with the broken mechanics so stopped playing. Is the dentist after that part or have i just forgotten about him?

Unless he means the docter bloke?

I think it's a good game, only one I've enjoyed in recent years to be perfectly honest.

What broken mechanics do you speak of by the way out of interest? :)

I did start playing through again not long ago...might have to carry on with that.

I actually find the gameplay so good that I didn't even noticed the resolution was set to 1024 x 768 instead of 1900 x 1200. It made the graphics looks crappy but I didn't even realise. I was too busy foccusing staying alive and getting away from baddies.

The first and most glaring one was that there was no downside to dieing, you just respawned happy as a lamb. Second problem (for me) was that i was playing on normal, after about 3 hours you become effectively a demigod who not only shrugs off attacks, but also automatically kills/injures anyone who has the audacity to hit you (electric skin augmentation). At the point i was at, i was actually beginning something to pose a challenge, i was even beating Big Daddies to death with a wrench to give myself a challenge (i won). I know i could have started the game again on hard difficulty, but i was too far in and due to a corrupt savegame in the past, i've already played through the first 1/4 of the game twice so couldn't be bothered to start from the beginning again.

Oh and the 'amazing' plot twist wasn't so amazing in my eyes :p

Meh, I rarely play games on Normal due to that very reason.

I also disabled the funny chamber things or whatever they are...never used them anyway :p

Nah, the twist was cool, I just excepted it for what it was, I didn't know there was going to be one...so that's probably why.

People look into games 'too' much regarding story sometimes, it ruins it.

I'm a total wimp, and the part you mentioned where you fight a horde in the dark was heart-pumping, but as for the rest of the game, not scary at all. I dont think its meant to be though?

I think i did jump 1 or 2 times throughtout the game, but those were caused by moments where i do a 180 turn, and an enemy is right in my face. Happens in almost every fps i play though so they dont count :P

Dead Space scares me stupid. Bioshock on the other hand was a walk in the park. I can not express how scarey Dead Space is at times. You know that a body is going to jump up and eat you yet, when it does, it still scares me.

God I'm such a wuss. >Age=<resistance to fear

That's good. Last thing I need is to be scared playing a damn computer game :D
I don't mind having them rush at me from all directions, but for heavens sake, let me SEE them at least :p
