Does anyone else refuse to pay for Xbox multiplayer?

Again, I restate the point from earlier.

Doesn't silver account, Which is free, Offer everything gold offers, Apart from the ability to connect to another person for online gaming?

If so aren't Microsoft charging us for nothing? Charging us to host games on the 360, Connect to another 360, Using the ISP we are already paying? To play video games?

That is a question i used to ask about 6 months ago.

Since all the bells and whistles are so great then why rape us for multiplayer gaming?

Always thought it was a rip off

No, I've only had my xbox about 8 months now. I've played more than I ever imagained I would. Averages out to around 6-8 hours a week. I paid £26 for my year sub, which works out at 7p a day!

How is that not good value? I know that Sony offer it free, and you can game on a PC for free. If people want to winge about paying for a "service" then go somewhere else and do it. No one forces you to play on live, it is a choice you make.

Yes I would be happy if MS made it free, but I'm not complaining at the price I pay for hours of enjoyment at a cost of about 0.29 pence an hour...

EDIT: I will be really annoyed though if we are made to pay for COD maps that PS3 and PC users get for free..

I'd like to see more DS's - thats all. I wasn't planning to renew my subs come Xmas 2007 but auto-renew kicked in before I knew what hit me. I find myself playing less and less online over XBL due to having a need to do other stuff irl so I'd prefer not to have a sub atm.

Iirc I haven't played decently online since CoD3 and Forza too, and the former was an utter craptake online during the early days because of no DS's.

No because I'm not poor.

omg its mastur cheef! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kb8rdc-0OpQ ;)

"who dusnt hav 10 doll3rz, i wipe my a$$ wiv 10doll3rz"

Seriously though, up until about last week I thought, "I'm not paying to play games online" (played WoW for 2yrs lols) but Im going to bite the bullet in the next few days and get a yrs sub.

You can get a year for £27 if you look hard enough :)

I'm a firm believer that Live should be free. After the 1 month free gold sub they gave me I never renewed it. They are pretty much charging you for what I feel I got for free on PC. I'm sure you do get some other features but I fail to see what warrants £40 a year. I'll never pay for Live. Hopefully when Sony get Home together MS will be forced to make it free.

sorry to bring this thread back.. but after seeing the thread about mass effect.. this made me think about it again.
They get us to pay for this.. then they also charge extra for the "points" to spend on stuff on here.. surely this is double charging?

Was it free, I doubt it would be what it is today.

I'm quite happy to pay it. Even at the RRP of £40 (which most people pay less than anyway) it works out at around £3.35 a month.

Hardly within the realms of extortion is it. ;)

(just so ppl dont miss my comment / question at the bottom of the previous page).

Wow, a lot more replies than I thought there'd be.
I'm glad I am not the only person being this stubborn :)
I don't think Live is expensive... It's just that I don't think it's right for MS to "rape" (nice word JUMPURS) us for something that's been free on all other platforms, especially as it's P2P. Wannabedamned makes a good point about Silver Vs Gold too.

If you never had any intention using Live, why did you pay £60 for a Wireless adapter??
I admit I was a bit of a noob doing this :p But I was able to download loads of demos that lasted me the 7 months while I didn't buy any games (I had thin pockets).

wow, Ive put in over 8hrs of CoD4 this weekend, it is utterly delish online (yes im aware im a bit late to the party ;) )

I still hate using a pad after all these yrs playing CS and Battlefield but im getting used to it.

In short, yea its well worth the £28 I payed for 13months :D

They really should add dedicated servers soon, if they just did that for Halo 2 standby would not have been an issue.

Can't believe it doesn't happen tbh, Would hardly skint ms even if it was just for uber popular games like halo 3, cod 4 etc.

It should be free, console owners get shafted, pay to play online, expensive accessories, downloadable content that you need to pay for that should have been in the retail game, welcome to next gen.

Saying that I still have fun with my 360.

If it had dedicated servers and the price was paying for the upkeep of those servers (like WoW) I wouldn't have a problem with it.

I just don't get what your actually paying for? For me it's personally no better than PSN and you don't pay for that. Many people will say Live is better than PSN, and it may have some better features but are those features worth £40 a year?, to some I'm sure they are, just not for me personally.

i must admit that the social networking aspect of live makes playing games with people a lot easier

you go into the guide blade and add them - speak - etc

that ease of use and integration is not included in ps3 yet
they are still a way behind

added to that the amount of content on the marketplace compared to psn

i do love both
i play my racers and adventure games on ps3
but xbl takes preference for my multiplayer games and i dont mind paying for it - it works out at £2.50 ish a month

less than a beer?
think about it
