Does anyone else use a bedroom fan?

I would like an ac unit or at least a ceiling fan and proper black out blinds. But I don't want to spend money in this rented property.
Anyone have any idea how easy ceiling fan is to install.

I have a 100w fan in the window thats got a blade diameter of nearly 2 foot. It soon exchanges the air and cools my room down at night.

If you worry about the noise, don't get the Dyson 'bladeless fan' I don't own one but have seen reviews and it sounds like a jet engine! just saying...

as for cooling, a fan won't bring down room temperature, they only cool you when there 'on you'

I've got one and it really depends on what setting you've got it on. It's possible to keep a room reasonable cool on one of the quieter settings. But, yes, on maximum it's certainly quite loud.

I got one of these bad boys

pulling air from outside :D

£100
from "justfans" dead easy just needs a plug+ 2 core wire and a bit of ducting
It's rather ghetto but the airflow is really nice :D + I'm renting so don't want anything permanent that I won't be able to take with me should I ever move

Nope. My last two flats in Taiwan didn't have fans in the room I slept in, never mind AC, so being back in Britain I haven't had a single moment where I've thought "Gosh, it's a bit warm". Then again, I'm not sure I'd ever had one of those before, that couldn't be solved by opening the window. Helps to be a heavy sleeper I guess, noise outside doesn't tend to wake me up.

Got a few 12" desk fans and a 16" pedestal last winter for like £2 a piece in sainsburys, they have them back in stock now at like £20+ lol

Have had the smaller ones goign in the bedroom from time to time, definatley more comfortable

Leave my window open with a big fan near it pulling the fresh air in, I sleep with the window open 365 days a year & the fan is on during the warmer months.

I've got 2 fans, one on a stand and a Bionaire that sits on the floor that sounds like a jet engine. The stand fan is a cheap Proline jobbie from a large electrical store but is is a lot quieter so great for sleeping. Recently got myself a portable air con unit but I'm only going to use that when absolutely necessary as it eats electricity.

I've always been an advocate of keeping the curtains closed all day, opening a window front and back (velus if you have one) and leaving all the internal doors open. Closing the curtains massively reduces solar gain during the day, opening windows front back (and roof) allows a constant airflow stopping heat build up and the final one for me is opening doors and leaving them open the number of people who just open a single bedroom window with the door closed amazes me, how is it ever going to cool down if there is no free air flow no wonder you need fans!
