Does getting fillings hurt?

Are the teeth in the top of the mouth or the bottom? If it's the bottom you're ok, they inject into your gum and all you'll feel is a tiny scratch. If it's in the top then you're screwed, they'll inject the roof of your mouth which is absolute agony - think of that scene in Marathon Man.

Nope, the placement of the needle depends on many factors and you most likely won't feel much pain. Slightly uncomfortable for a brief second or two but not pain.

You'll be fine :)

I had a couple of white fillings done about four or five years ago. They were only tiny but to say it was painless is an understatement, I could have had a catnap while they got on with it.

the injections are all painless (except one) because they use gel stuff usually, the one that's painful isn't really pain, more massively uncomfortable, it feels like someone is inserting a pencil into the roof of your mouth.

Little Shop of Horrors scene :p

It ALWAYS hurts when I get fillings done and I've had 5 different dentists. I don't bother with the injections any more because it still hurts as much but I don't walk about with a numb face for hours afterwards. Think about the hot nurse's ample bosom squeezing out her tight white outfit. That'll take yer mind off it :D

Don't be such a woman. Fillings are painless if your dentist waits until the injection has done it's work. I had to have a deep one in the top right hand side done, there was some discomfort, but nothing major.

Try having stitches in the soft skin underneath your thumb nail, that hurts. Getting kicked in the balls is a more pleasant experience then that.

Every filling I have had has been excruiciating ! And thats with 3 different dentists.

No matter how much I tell them it hurts, or how much anaesthetic they use, its allways the same - the most painfull thing you can imagine!

Mind you, it has to be done though :/

It hurts like hell!

It feels like someone is drilling through your skull with a Black & Decker on hammer setting and the searing agony, my god, the pain. MAKE IT STOP, OH NO, NOT AGAIN.....

and you dribble like a sedated retard for hours afterwards; not that you'd notice, with the throbbing ache all along your jaw and down your neck and that.

Hope that helps put your mind at rest. :)

when the 9 rotating blades dig into your teeth you can expect a lot of pain, followed by nausea and possibly passing out.*

*note what i say here is a total lie
