Does getting fillings hurt?

It doesn't hurt at all, the worst thing with fillings is when you're drowning on the damn water the nurse is spraying into your mouth at the same time and it just sits at the top of your throat.

It's impossible to predict how much/little pain you will feel.
It varies from dentist to dentist and from tooth to tooth.
Generally, the deeper the filling, the more likely it is for you to feel pain.
However, if the anesthetic is sufficient, this would be minimal.
The injections often hurt. It depends on which part of the mouth you have them and how good the dentist is. I have read that pain from injections is partly down to the dentist rushing them. The faster the fluid is forced through you, the more discomfort.
Some people have a couple of Nurofen 30 minutes before a filling.
However, sadly I have had many fillings and none have been terrible.

Not at all.

I had 2 when i was younger with no anesthetic.

Luckily the teeth with the fillings in fell out so i dont have any anymore.

For me after being injected with far too much anesthetic by my (now ex) dentist I went to hospital in an ambulance. That was not fun at all.

Since that I don't have any injections when I have a filling done. Doesn't hurt at all. Sure I would probably not do it like this if it was a huge filling with some deep drilling required, for normal fillings it's fine.

the injection is horrible. sharp needles being stuck in ** gum and even then they dont always numb it properly. I've only ever had one filling and asked for it without the injection and seriously, it hurt less than when I had a tooth taken out with one!

I love the dribbling and not being able to feel the side of ones face for hours after ;) Wierd sensation. Basically just get the injection and it should numb it. There have been times where I have had to get them to inject me more as there wasnt enough in my gum to numb it enough. Unfortunately that time took me from 9am till like 1pm to get the feeling of my face back! ;)

It's more of an ache and the fact you can barely swallow during the procedure, it's just uncomfortable more than pain.

I like the injection though, lol.

I was told that, in India several years ago, a dentist removed some teeth from my grandmother but used water (or something else) instead of anesthetic :mad: I don't think she ever recovered mentally from the torture...

Edit : i'm sure you'll be fine!

It really depends on your dentist. Most of the time it doesn't hurt me but once or twice i've been in agony because the stupid woman can't freeze my mouth properly! Speaking of which i've to go back on Wednesday to get some replacement fillings :(

lol, that happens to me and I have to keep swallowing to get rid of it!

Fillings shouldn't hurt if the dentist leaves the anaesthetic long enough. The needle for the anaesthetic is only slightly painful for about 2 seconds.

For me it is just really uncomfortable, I don't know what to do qith my tongue, get a build up of saliva and cant breath all that great
