I've always known it as 'The Rule of Thirds' not 'Two Thirds' but either way I don't think the name works. How about using the 'Golden Ratio' somehow?

I did, I decided it was just a few who thought it. But after making the site people seem to be saying it again.

I did try to design the logo around "two thirds".

I like the name and was keen to see what the logo looked like but looks like to over zelous Dons got there first. Don't let other people put you off though, a company with the silly name Fish Media just won the contract to do DCFC website. A unique name is better than a bland name IMHO.

You mean like how my thread was nuked? Promoting something you can't even purchase yet. Guess being proud of actually being published in print isn't OK to shout about over here. Whilst I mostly appreciate the tight ship that is ran here I do question how overzealous the moderation has become recently.

Here is a business trick i will share with you... call it "AAA123 Photos"... that way it will show up at the front of the yellow pages when people are looking.

Do this, I bought my parents business with from them and I wish I had changed the name. One compnay is called 360 Healthcare and their name is always above the companies which start with the letter A.

When People are looking for a company they will always start at the top of the list.

Thanks for the comments here though guys, may have to have a little re-think. I'm getting far too many negative comments about the name to not give me doubts.

I've only ever heard of it being called the 'rule of thirds' rather than the 'two thirds rule', so for me it fails somewhat on achieving that intended link. Secondly, had it achieved that link it would carry a slightly negative connotation that your business name is built on what is generally considered a rather rudimentary 'rule' to assist amateurs with their composition.

That's before you ever get on to anything regarding what other connotations two thirds will raise.

I'd definitely stick with trying to find an actual name though, not just Dave Jones Photography. Every man and his camera calls himself that so unless your work is truly exceptional, you just won't stand out at all and the name will be completely unmemorable.

Just to clarify on the two thirds thing. Not sure why I called it the two thirds rule on my OP, I am aware its called the rule of thirds.

The rule of thirds simply gave me the idea for the name, knowingly that normally I use two thirds of the screen for the subject and the rest for empty space (generally). I'm not by no means calling it the two thirds rule, just got confused in OP with it all.

Fair enough. I definitely commend the effort to go for something more original sounding though, it certainly goes some way to creating a good image, perhaps more importantly an image that appears slightly more creative than just a name.

Just be careful of existing uses of names. I just thought of a couple of suggestions for you and predictably enough, they already appear to be in use. This isn't necessarily from a legal point of view (though bear that in mind) but more so from a competition angle, if you choose something that 3 other people already have 5 years worth of attaining a good google ranking for, you'll struggle to get noticed.

Earlier shouts of 'Three Thirds Media' might actually be a fairly good one
