Does something need to be done about dogs?

Can we close this thread if it's just going to be yourself linking news stories along with silly statements?

I would imagine dog attacks do occur in parks due to, dogs like to get walked in parks....

Also your link takes me to news for Samsung, CBA downloading app to see where this news story actually came from.

Whilst looking for my Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy on various dogs for sale sites I was amazed at the sheer number of these outsize "pit bull" type XL Bully creatures, (means of circumventing the banned in the UK pit bull) for sale. I also noted the 5 weeks free insurance the puppy came with had a LOT of small print, and upon wading through it, amongst the various clauses was a one saying insurance was NOT offered for a list of the various names used for these Bully XL things. Seem the pet insurance companies see them and their owners as too high a risk to cover...

Yeah I imagine it's like car insurance, or any insurance - the risk with those things is high, so you'll pay a fortune or not get insurance at all...

Insurance is risk-based - Designer breeds, pedigree lines and generally in-bred examples are typically more susceptible to a wider variety of medical issues.
There is also the owner factor, based on how likely a highly desirable breed (Husky, GSD, Pitbull type) is to attract an inexperienced or incompetent owner. Certain working breeds are mostly favoured by competent handlers, so are overall cheaper to insure.

As a possibly interesting (or not...) aside I am old enough to well remember when journalists and publicans were the subject of considerably higher car insurance premiums. Make what you will of that :)

Seven-year-old girl treated in hospital after dog attack in Merseyside

Kids not even safe in parks from random dog attack these days. Lacerations to the head, sure it was just a playful little nip eh?
It's the adults that don't deal with their dogs properly. Our collie was, as you can see, was impeccable. We have this new girl about eight weeks ago. Again, we have trained her and also already very well behaved.

No, it's clearly not just that it's the breed too.

Sounds like this was another dog of peace.

Highest ever dog bite admissions and highest number of deaths due to dogs in 40 years... Also if looking at that long a time period remember that medicine has improved in that time period too, stabbing victims for example who'd have died a decade or two ago are now surviving etc. more people dying from dog bites also indicates many more getting severely injured, some of whom may well have been deaths too earlier on in that 40 year period!

@dowie Not possible. Its a non-issue according to those in complete denial in here.

A common problem for some; everything is monocausal and I refuse to look at other factors... see also the housing thread where the only problem is landlords and the only solution is council housing.

No one is getting rid of dogs.

If Labour said "dogs are banned" tories would win the election

If someone said "we're going to sacrifice a couple of dozen kids every year so you can have ice-cream" people would sharp give up ice-cream!

I doubt it.

People die from peanut allergies all the time but it isn't banned.

You seriously don't get the difference between a medical condition and being killed? Are you...OK?

What's the difference? A few people die from dog attacks. A few people die from peanut allergies. Both could technically easily be prevented. But we don't. Because otherwise we'd ban everything.

One is a result of a medical condition that cannot be prevented. The other isn't.
