Does something need to be done about dogs?

Ah ok. Gotcha, though not sure I’d compare having a shuffle in private to dog ownership but each to their own. I was really only trying to point out the silliness of even debating a total ban on dog ownership. Much as I’m heavily in the camp of banning these horrid monstrosities like the BXL, I think it’s utter madness to even talk about banning all dogs. Much like it would be madness to even have a debate on banning having a shuffle in private but it certainly makes sense to have a ban on folk just wandering round knocking one out in public, to paraphrase your analogy.

No but this isn't about in private, this is in public. These dogs that are attacking people are often out in public so why is that OK to continue but a five knuckle shuffle in the middle of a park isn't? One is most decidedly more risky than the other!

Ahh haa, I’m with you now. So you’re no suggesting ban all dogs but ban them in public? While I’d agree with that to a certain extent, I’d be less draconian. I’d suggest all dogs, whether they be a ‘handbag’ poodle/thing or a Labrador or whatever must be muzzled and on a lead in public, expect for designated dog fields. Never fly though. Folk love their dogs too much.
Apologies, the knocking one out over my ma’s face threw me, I wasn’t sure if you were admittong some fantasy or trying to hurfdurf me into wanting fight you!

Lol no, i'm sure your mum's bloody lovely and if we ever meet i'll refrain. Even if she is a stunner!

But surely because there are deaths it would be better to ban them? People can just live near there job. No one really needs these child murdering cars.

Can you imagine trying to ban dogs? Or would be worse than banning guns in the USA.

I'd emigrate. And I'm sure many others would rather than giving up thier dogs.

Cars don't take it upon themselves to kill people.
People can't just live near 'there' job.

Nice to see that banning whatever breed it was stopped such a tragic thing from happening. /s

What would a licence do to stop these clearly irresponsible owners of an already banned breed?

It needs to be the breeders that are targeted and prosecuted. They are dealing in breeds of death.

RIP.

That's why you need enforcement to go with bans and licenses.

Running would just excite them more with the chase, so unless you can run to climb something quickly, you aren't going to get away and kick 'em as hard as you like it's unlikely to do anything.

The main tactic once being attacked and bitten (dont try and pull your limb out) is to fall on them and use your body weight to try and break their ribs & pin them down, then either go for their eyes or choke them by strangulation or pushing the limb further into their mouth and into the throat.

If you need to de-escalate with an aggressive dog before it attacks, don't make eye contact, don't smile, turn sideways and move slowly.

What's the tactic with a pack? Lie down and pray?

The drink driving problem is greater than deaths caused by dogs. It's not remotely the same in terms of the scale of the problem or the potential damage caused (to multiple victims).

It's like banning steak because 4 people choked to death on a bite they didn't chew well enough.

That steak analogy is terrible. It would make sense if you chewing steak caused someone else to choke. Or...you know, be torn to pieces.
