Does something need to be done about dogs?

Agree with the ban, disagree they shouldn't have been culled. The type of people who tend to own these dogs will think they're better than the authorities anyway, and won't comply with the muzzling and neutering anyway. Nothing but a council estate dog.

A cull doesn't achieve much either.

We need to end the lack of consequence in ownership of potentially rabid animals, there must be a constant threat of imprisonment hanging over their heads every moment they don't get rid of the dog.

I think a better idea would be to put the owners down as well as the dogs? Might make people think twice before buying one.

If a dog kills someone, what happens to the owners?

Plenty of stories of dogs killing their owner or disfiguring them which doesn't seem to stop anyone else from pretending their dog won't also do it to them.

Imprisonment isn't much of a solution either tbh, maybe the punishment could be that they must do community service in a fursuit in the middle of summer?

Make them wear thier balaclava, fake north face puffa jacket, with a hoodie underneath with the hood pulled up, and dirty gray trakkie bottoms, and make them pick up dog poop/litter picking.

The punishement should fit the crime :D

Often not a lot, but I'd like to see them charged with the same sort of crime as if they'd shot or stabbed someone, as these types of dogs are lethal weapons, even more so as they are so unpredictable. At least with a knife or gun you have to make a consious decision to injure or murder someone. But somehow owning these dogs is a diminished responsibility on the owner.

"he's normally well behaved, he's never killed a granny or eaten a child before"

Just found out my cousin has been in hospital after being attacked by her own dog. Nobody knows exactly what the breed is but it's some kind of staffie/Pitbull or similar mix. It was triggered by her having an argument with her son and the dog went crazy and attacked her leaving deep bites all over. It has been taken away and put down already.

There's definitely a lot more attacks happening recently

Jesus, mauled by her own dog. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.

It’s mental how bad the killer dog issues are. I know we’re a nation of animal lovers, but this is silly.

In the first article the woman had 5x American bulldogs in the house with 2x others…. How can anyone control that lot?

In the second article, the breed was a pitbull and already banned.

It’s frustrating because these problems would be solvable with simple legislation (licensing, registration and insurance) and proper enforcement, along with enforcement of the existing rules.

This problem has gotten to the point it’s at - because the can just keeps getting kicked down the road.

Fighting dog attacks with bureaucracy.

That'll reassure everyone in the short term when there's 100s, if not 1000s of these things already in people's homes. Smack a raging bully in the face with an insurance policy, and if they don't listen a licence. Maybe long term, it's a good idea, but the current situation is almost crisis levels.

Dreaming if you think any funding is going to be put in to fund any of this. Maybe have a ULVDZ (ultra low violent dog zone) charge to fund it, it's how we pay for stuff now. Grind up all the dangerous ones to feed children, that'll teach the bully breed and solve child hunger at the same time.

There isn’t a quick fix, even banning the breed in question is in practice, going to take years.

The reason we are where we are, is because there’s no effective legislation at all, no real consequences and no muscle (enforcement), to punish existing rule breakers.

I mean no people are ever found driving without insurance or a licence surely a bit of paper work and arbitrary fee can stop people illegally owning potential killer dogs too?

Ban them tomorrow.
Let chavs cry for s few weeks.
Put little parachutes on the dogs and drop them all in sevestapol...

That goes for most crime nowadays. What makes you thing this will be given any sort of priority?

It’s about numbers and enforcement, if you have rules which exist and are properly enforced, the number of people causing problems will decrease.

Most people do obey laws and rules on the whole, this is why we don’t live in total chaos like some countries which don’t have law and order.

I don’t think it will be given priority, because the current government are helpless.
