Does something need to be done about dogs?

They may well have that perception, just as other dogs like German Shepherds and Rottweilers have in the past but they are far from exclusively owned by such people.
I never said they were exclusively owned by such people but because they are the dog of choice for those people the entire breed gets that reputation.

Regardless of whether they're associated with chavs or not, there's no getting away from the fact that they're ugly mutts that are well suited to the tracksuit-wearing, cider-swilling, fag smoking, wannabe hard men.

It’s a bit harsh :p Of course the German Shepards are very good dogs that’s why Adolf coveted them.

Took my golden retriever out for a walk this morning. He wasn’t on the lead for any of it.

Let the frothing commence.
Same here, and yesterday evening. Several miles, through town, through the park, the woods, fields, down along the river and home again, lead never left my pocket. Several small children weren't maimed, no passers by were inconvenienced. Clearly he's going to have to up his game, he's got a reputation to uphold.

Obviously I left the dog poo bags hanging in various trees like stinky Christmas decorations.....

I hope you were wearing your trackie bottoms and obviously throwing your empty cider can for your dog to retrieve.

Of course. I also greeted every passerby with "**** are you looking at? You want some?"

I've also developed quite the swagger....

I'm considering renaming the dog, Barney doesn't have the presence I'm looking for. Maybe Tyson? Old school but also still current, maybe killer? Throat ripper has a nice ring to it.

The blinkered not my dog in this thread is exactly the Staffie owner behaviour i'd expect.

Do you all have to repeat the Staffie owner mantra 5 times before youre allowed to take youre dogs from the breeder ?

"He's such a softie , he wouldnt hurt a fly, oh err he's never done that before"
with the bonus add on the the first few years - "He's just a babi"

Its odd how we all accept breeds have traits, we expect our Labs to retrieve, our Pointers to point, our Spaniels to rout, Collies to herd , nobody blinks an eyelid if you point out the smaller dogs that are often aggressive, Chihuahua etc.
Yet the moment you mention Staffies fighting other dogs, the Staffie apologist brigade throw the toys out the pram and scream the place down about how its not the dog , its just the owner.

When Dazza breeds Tyson and Delilah in his back bedroom, do those aggressive traits suddenly disapear in the offspring because Dave thinks his dogs a good boy because he hasnt yet ate a child ?

Do I have experience of the 'wits with Staffies, unfortunately yes. My current Lab didnt make it to a year old before losing a chunk out the bottom of his ear. Shall we take a wild stab in the dark what breed that was, do you want to have a guess what the owner said ?

My last Lab [a very non dominant dog who had little interest in other dogs], was attacked on the lead at least 5 times where the dogs had hold of him and pinned down, most of them requiring Vets visits, guess what breed that was ... and i'll give you a starter, it wasnt a Golden Retreiver.

We had numerous other near misses where I managed to deflect the other dog, one where I ended up being pulled to the ground with my head next to its jaws, not fun. Go on , take a guess what dog that was ?

One of those dogs had hold of him 3 times on different occasions, the first time .. " oh he's never done that before " , did he keep it on a lead after that.. nooooo of course not ... its a Staffy .. a nannie dog ... never heard of Nannies that eat so many kids but maybe I should dO My oWn rEAseArch.

The Police did * all about it until it had hold of me on attack no 3 and left me with a couple of lovely holes in my torso, massive bruising and a hematoma that took months to go.

That owner ended up with a Community Protection Order to have it on the lead and muzzled at all times, which suprise suprise he constantly flaunts, you know why ? Nah George wouldnt hurt a fly, its just that Lab.

Theres a reason dog rescue centres are full of a certain breed and thats after they've euthonized the most obviously aggressive ones.

Ok let me show you again how a properly trained staff behaves when it’s off the lead and how a responsible owner acts. He doesn’t get over protective or start screaming and flapping, he gives calm, direct orders which the dog obeys.

See even “good natured dogs” can be at fault. Stop blanket blaming a breed and instead blame the individual that failed to train their dog properly.

Referring to people with a different opinion to your own as blinkered or as apologists isn't helpful and certainly in my own case is incorrect.

My own experiences with breeds like staffordshire bull terriers are the polar opposite of yours, the only difference I can see is I don't live anywhere near 'wits. I've found not living near 'wits solves no end of problems.

I suspect if I could be bothered to look back through available information on dog attacks over the years that the vast majority would involve 'wits living in unsuitable housing, in unsuitable areas, no training and sadly a breed of dog that has a strong look. What do you think will happen if you ban bully breeds? problem solved? don't be stupid, they'll move on to another breed, Alsatian, German Shepard, Doberman etc. The problem will continue all that will change is the breed. Now tell me again where the problem lies.

You can blame everyone else as much as you want, you can whataboutism this breed or that breed as much as you want, Staffies and their ilk were bred for and used for fighting, those traits are in the genes.

You can stick your head in the sand and deny it just because you own one, you can get all uppity because someones compared you to a chav, it makes no difference.

Who is the most experienced dog trainer/expert on the planet. Write them an email and get this done.

Is it that gay Mexican guy on discovery channel? He know a lot about talking quietly to dogs.

Dogs of peace have been rigerously bred för violence. It's like the American assault rifle high capacity magazine nonsense.
They are completely safe until a nutcase uses one inappropriately, but they are designed for the purpose of maximum rounds down range....
Just like a dog of peace being submissive and well trained until it's eats your babies face.
Statistical analysis would show fåtal dog attacks being done by all breeds of hound but it simply doesn't.
The genetic monstrosity of the dog breed just has the higher magazine capacity in its biting ability.

I wrote this on a toilet

Nope, and no amount of protestation from yourself will change that. Consider yourself and your dog to be the exception to the rule, and in all seriousness I congratulate you.
Sorry you feel that way. But I’ll say it once more I do not have a dog unfortunately, I would love one but me and my wife work full time so it’s not responsible or possible.
