Does something need to be done about dogs?

Dogs are a pain in the arse, smelly, potentially dangerous no matter what then breed and require constant supervision like a child.

A lot of dog owners do not take responsibility for the dog they own, I see it everyday. Walking past dog poo daily all over the paths and on the side on the grass. Owners going out for the majority of the day to leave the dog barking in the house. Letting dogs just run all over the park while young children are playing. It really is disgraceful behaviour

A license should be required and owners should be trained more then the damn dog!

Dogs are fine, its humans that are the problem.

I think dogs and cats as pets are bad - liking faces/hands of owners, licking their arses to clean themselves, liking plates used for fuests, even pulling themselves along the kitchen work counter to remove a hair lodges poo..

Parasites etc.. for new born it’s IF their body can destroy it.. chances are they cant.. some are really bad like worms etc.

My friend has a reactive German shepherd. Barks at everything, wouldn’t settle. He was poorly socialised as a puppy I suspect and it didn’t get better as he was so reactive. Not particularly aggressive but very loud and barky.
My friend sent him away to some camp where they used an electric shock collar to ‘fix’ him. He’s come back, and is much better and less barky but I suspect this is just out of fear and I think has created an even more dangerous dog and is a problem just waiting to happen. He still barks but does so from his bed rather than jumping at the door/windows. He has two young kids, and I certainly wouldn’t be leaving my hypothetical kids (or my real golden retriever) alone with this dog.
No idea how these electric shock collars are legal. I think this is a dangerous dog just waiting to happen.

Why? If I go to the pub my dog comes with me.
I've noticed recently a lot of shops have become a lot more dog friendly and are allowing people to take their pets inside (presumably to help spending).

My Dad bought a pub back in the late 80's and for the first few years we were there dogs were allowed side but at some point in the 90's H&S guidelines recommend not allowing dogs inside if food was being severed.

Wrong.

They are banned in Wales, not sure whether they are in England.

Seems to have become a thing since Covid is subsiding - can't go to a cafe/pub/shop without tripping over a dog. I assume it's because they aren't used to being left alone
The problem I have with this in pubs is that they seem to be let to get their paws up on tables where people are eating, run around off lead, bark. On the floor, on a lead, not barking is fine with me
In coffee shops it seems to be accepted for them to sit on chairs or on peoples' laps and help themselves to items off their owners plates
Was in town last week and a German Sheppard puppy emptied its runny guts all over a relatively narrow pedestrianised thoroughfare. The owner had no hope of cleaning it up and pedestrians were dancing around trying to avoid the mess. Pedestrians arriving later would likely have got it all over their shoes and spread the good news yukkkk

As someone who takes my dog most places I too find it equally irritating with unruly dogs. Dog's shouldn't be bothering other people and shouldn't be constantly barking it's rude. My dog will sit with me and be quiet and not bother anyone and would be tied to me on a very short lead just incase he gets up without me noticing.

I also don't take him with because I can't leave him though. He's more than happy to be at home for up to 8 hours ish, I just enjoy taking him with me.

haha, its a joke. Its the excuse made whenever someone defends what we do to "livestock".

I just feel people should hear what their own crap arguments sound like....

Caerphilly being a small place, I've just had a conversation with someone who knows the son who tried and failed to pull the dog off his mum, and was injured in the process. He couldn't get it off as it was too strong. I got told a lot more I won't repeat here.

It sounds like a horrendous experience.

I've seen the result of a dog attack. They're not pretty.

Cane corso crossed with an American bully XL, is a pretty mental creation... There's no real reason for it to exist, other than to frighten, intimidate and kill people..

There's also a problem with people weaponising such animals, it's illegal to own a gun - yet there's nothing illegal about breeding a dog like this, then training it to attack and kill. Personally, I think you'd stand more chance of surviving being shot with a handgun, than you would being attacked full on by a dog like that, they're devestatingly strong and powerful.

If you want a proper guard dog, there are plenty of traditional guard dog breeds, which can be properly trained, are very effective and have been used for hundreds of years (German Shepherds, Rotweillers, Mastiffs etc)

Unfortunately I think legislation is the only way, it makes me sad suggesting we ban things, but I think some of these canine, mutant abominations are simply too big, too dangerous and unpredictable.
