Does something need to be done about dogs?

Perhaps I should kick the crap out of it when it growls at anyone? Perhaps that will stop it from doing that right? I really hope you don't have a dog.
Dogs are a canny judge of character, perhaps it just didn't like you? Yes, I have dog(s) and they're well trained and happy. Reward training works best.

That remind of the time I was working regular at a site and one of the residents had this small dog that was forever barking or growling at everything and everyone. Once I was working on something minding my own business and it was at it again and she said "Don't worry, its ok he won't bite" I half jokingly replied that if he did he'd feel the end of my boot. The look on her face I don't think she ever spoke to me again.

Heres a thing for you, if a dog is food aggressive at SPCA or similar animal rehoming centre in the US and they test it with a false hand on the end of a pole if the dog goes for it the dog is regarded as not safe to rehome and it gets destroyed. I bet you think thats terrible and inhumane don't you.

Looks like it's been destroyed from the BBC article, shame for the dog, doesn't really know any better, just doing what dogs do, you'd think people would learn that dogs & kids is an accident waiting to happen

Freak. A dog that hurts a human should be put down immediately.

I think people should be allowed any breed, but if it causes serious injury or death the owner should get mandatory min 20 years in prison, rising with negligence.

And this particular issue is coming from a personal place. Anyone defending, excusing or downplaying a dog attack should have a first hand experience seeing the immediate horrific damage that can be done in seconds.

Depends whether it is a risk to anyone. If there is ever a situation where food and kids can be around at the same time then extreme caution is required.

I think this is the problem with many owners, not saying you,by the way, but they don't think and they just assume everything will be OK so they never are cautious.

I suppose it is, in a way, like having a dangerous weapon. People should certainly go to prison more often.

Yes, but

"Meanwhile, it has emerged that Ms Johnston was not licensed to walk dogs in the area that she was attacked."

I may have missed it so forgive me if this was already covered.. Was there any mention of the breed(s) involved?

Not so much from a "are they a dangerous breed" perspective, but more wandering the size / strength of the dogs.

Walking 8 Chihuahua's is one thing, but 8 medium-to-large breed dogs would be very foolish.

There's no way a person could realistically keep control of such a large pack of dogs.

The reports of this 4 year old being killed sound real bad.

More details to come I imagine, and I won’t be surprised if negligence is another factor (leaving a 4 year old unsupervised with a dog)

Hurt or killed? Its not as simple as you make out.

At least one of the dogs was a dachshund.

Source?

A few articles I've read they've not even mentioned the breed.

Oh your comment was on that woman walking 8 dogs. I think I said in an earlier comment - I'd be surprised if all 8 dogs were involved in that attack.

I've lost count of the literally hundreds of TikToks, YT, and Instagram videos of toddlers manhandling pitbull types in a family setting. Sure the person filming is essentially supervising the situation but I bet a good deal of money that there are tones of families who let their pitbull types dogs be with their kids unsupervised because they believe they're "softies"

Leonbergers are one of the more gentle breeds, it's obscenely rare for someone to be attacked and killed by a breed like that.

My guess is, due to eight dogs being walked at the same time, something just went haywire and pack-mentality kicked in, and whoever was there, was getting killed.

I can't imagine it really being possible, to walk not only eight dogs at the same time - but dogs of all different shapes/sizes/breeds.. It sounds like an absolute ******* nightmare.

A friend of mine has 5x Akitas, all exactly the same and he walks them at once - but all the dogs grew up, live and play together, and he's owned Akitas all his life and has never had a problem, he's also knows how to impose himself as the leader, I've never seen his dogs even get close to being out of control.

This whole story just sounds like someone trying to do far too much at once...

Food aggression/food resource guarding is supposedly very common in dogs. So much so that most of them would have to be put down if you thought it was a problem. Yes, you can and should train them to control it better, but to be honest I think it is impossible to get rid of it to some degree.
All the dogs I've had were like that.

They never snapped.. but growled. I find rubbing their ears works. They have ears like the Ferengi :)
