Does something need to be done about dogs?

Just went on a trip back to UK and 1st train i got on from airport was a chav woman with one of these american bullys sat on 2 train seats opposite her.
The entire 15min ride was here telling her dog to sit, stop, no! sit, no! sit"
There was not a hope in hell she could stop this dog if it actually wanted to do something.

Another train ride a teenage kid 18/19??? had a similar muscle kill dog off the lead on a ****ing tube train.
after this thread i seriously didnt take my eyes off of it until he got off the train.

People are morons and those dogs are ticking bite bombs....

My sister is one such idiot (sorry, sis, but it's true). She insists on having a dog that is significantly bigger than she is. There is absolutely no way she can stop the dog if it decides to run riot, yet, somehow, she manages to blame everyone else for this problem. She has already been reported to the RSPCA several times because the dog is apparently out of control in the back garden and trying to get over the fence, yet she continues, blinkered to the danger.

I honestly don't know what to do with such people. I don't know what the solution is. The fact is that some dogs can not be trusted, and the owners either don't care or are blind to the possibilities. If I had my way, there would be a size limit on dogs and anything over that limit, owners need a licence and are required to pass checks. Problem is, in these days of zero public services, there is no one to carry out the checks or police them.

You are in the wrong part of the country. Everyone around here has Collies that do everything their owner tells them and don't even need a lead. :)

Another one sadly. 37 year old man this time. Must have been some size dog.

Further to this...

"A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dangerously out of control dog causing injury resulting in death. He remains in custody."

GOOD. I hope they throw the book at him.

Yeah we've got some people near where I live with two **** off sus looking steroid dogs with absurd heads. Absolutely zero chance of controlling the things if one decided to go off, I'd be happier if they were wandering around with a rifle.

Don't worry, the government allow you to walk around with a pen knife with a three-inch blade. I'm sure that will help a lot.

I just saw that story on the Beeb :( Lots of kids being killed but not often you see killed adults in the press. I wonder how a wolf would kill someone, probably going for their throats/necks like as if they're chasing a rabbit, but a dog to a human instead? Some public awareness / self defence about how dogs attack would come in handy but I guess would only work against certain breeds / sizes.

RIP to the fella.

I doubt that. Need to start making examples of these scumbags, chuck em in prison for the rest of their lives.

Those bully XLs are terrifying, I have experience with Mastiffs, (Bullmastiffs, English Mastiffs, Cane Corsos and Dogue De Bordeaux) and I find them wonderfully chilled and relaxing animals to be around.

But I'm properly scared of XLs... A guy on our fishing syndicate has one, and it's absolutely gigantic - it's also got that terrier behaviour to it, it's a bit hyper and just generally unsettling to be around..

I also don't think many people realise how gigantic they are, they're like the size of a damn chest-freezer - absolutely huge.

I just can't see any scenaro where it makes sense to own such a thing, they have no pedigree, no history, no use as a working dog and too big and nasty to be a pet.

Yeah this can be banned. No one would stand a chance against that.

Only one reason I can think anyone would want a dog like that. And anyone wanting a dog for that reason shouldn't have a dog.

I don't think dogs should be banned, but a license for a dog like this would make sense. It should be educational and ensure the owner knows how to safely manage the dog, keeping it muzzled in public, keeping it away from children and other animals, training it, etc.

For this dog. I disagree.
If this dog goes for you. And wants you dead. You're going to be dead. It's not like anyone could help and stop it.

Also don't think licencing would work. It would be hard to police and the people who bought licences probably wouldn't be the intended targets.
