Does this happen at your work?

We aren't allowed kettles because they are dangerous, so no, no one makes tea. It's all from the machine, or from the shop.

There are 3 machines, making it necessary to stroll to the one furthest away from my desk to get my cup of nasty klix machine 'tea' on quite a number of occasions during the day so that I don't die of boredem.

Of course, toilet trips are to the bogs at the other end of the office, and are never combined with a trip to the tea machine. Why make one journey when you can make two instead, especially as a round trip is roughly 200m. It could also be argued that it is good excercise to go there lots of times.

I don't drink tea or coffee, so have never had to make it.

But I'm starting a new job in an office soon, so I suppose I should learn how to make the stuff as it's the usual new boy job isn't it.

Where I work at the moment the same lady makes people tea/coffee/hot choc everyday! I don't know why she does it, but she doesn't seem to mind.

Everyone I work with is good about taking it in turns. Some people don't go very often, but no one makes a fuss. The girl opposite me does get cross if I ask for a coffee when she's just going for a glass of water, but only in a jokey sort of way.

Hehe yea, but i stay out of it and just make my own seperate cup and not a pot lol saves arguments for me :p though when someone does say anything they get a nice "you have never made me on in a year so why should i make you one :p" (unless they ask nicely of cource lol)

there used to be a bloke in work who would always go past are table and pickup someones cup of tea. So we decided to make a nice cup of tea and everyone just spat in it and blew there snot into it and we all waited for him to come along and just grinned when he drank it down with the reply that was nice :p

Nobody ever actually asks me to make them or get them a drink - as the IT Manager I feel I am a little above the point of being the "Tea Boy".
However as somebody else mentioned - I do actually work with adults.
So, when off to grab a drink usually someone will ask "Anyone else want a drink?"
A two minute question and if anyone else does it adds two minutes to the whole exercise.
We have coffee perculators at work, so even if you haven't asked if anyone wants one, when you get back to the office area you always announce the current coffee status - plenty left, new stuff brewing, stuff left but it's stale etc.
I'll happily make drinks for other people - but there is certainly no sending of anyone off to make drinks.

In my office, people would always offer to get something for the people sitting around them if they were getting up. It's hardly taxing to press a few buttons on the drinks machine though ;). In the old office, the machines were on the way to the toilets, so people would leave the black plastic cup holder things beside the machine and get it on the way out. When we moved over, I saw people taking the cup holders into the toilets with them, and from then on refused to bring back more than 3 cups (all I could carry without a holder), or let anyone else get me drinks. I don't work there any more though, so now I have to get all my own drinks :p.

We have a system where the boss buys all milk / coffee / tea and us staff take it in turns. I drink a lot of coffee but have no issue making extra brews.

All this talk is making me shudder. Seriously, the idea of working in an office is my nightmare.

Anyway, I never ask people to make me a cuppa (don't drink much coffee) because they never make it right - to say I'm a little particular in what I like is an understatement :p I do drink it if someone else has made me one though, I just tend to enjoy it less. Tea making has become a fine art, mastered over many years :D

I think I'd stick to the theory of just making myself one and another person if they asked nicely or I offered, but having to do 'rounds' I'd find very annoying.

...and that has got to be one of the most disgusting things I've heard or imagined in some time. Thank you.

We play rock-paper-scissors for it, so if people don't play, they don't get a cuppa.

We have produced an intranet site too, to show leagues, performance, winning & losing streaks etc.. it will be released under the GPL if anyone is interested :p

I hate this so called Tea Rota!

The best bit is I drink black tea, yet still have to go shopping to get milk when everyone else has used it up :(

If you want a drink, make your own! :p
