Does this sound right - mpg

That generation A3 was blessed with a range of terrible engines.

The 1.6 petrol is shocking and only bought by people who wanted the badge. The 1.6 TDI has all of the downsides of a diesel with none of the benefits. The 1.9 TDI which it replaced was pretty much the same engine fitted to the Mk4 golf 10 years ago

From the data supplied, we don't know what mpg he's getting. He hasn't measured it properly yet. Suggest this thread gets parked for a week until the OP does what's been described a couple of times above and reports back.

LOL

he said the thread should be parked

in the motors section

LOLOL do you get it? :D:D

I do t think there would be anything wring with mid 30's on a mostly motorway run. My 8l 1.8t was there or thereabouts and as already said the 1.6 will be trying harder.

How its really driven will have a massive impact too. I averaged 32mpg today on a mixed but quiet route - normally mid 40's

Inevitable question... does it ever get up to temperature? Thermostat broken?

If it's any consolation, my gf's 1.6 07 Focus only gets 30mpg

What about the extra distance travelled moving onto the forecourt (even if its not out his way) and fuel used by starting the car once more than normal. Probably makes it use more, given how tiny the saving because of weight would be

Quoted for sense.

I put 20 quid in twice a week. I did start off by brimming it each visit but having enough to get me to where I need to be the next day stops me going a random drive.

If I have a full tank then I'll tend to go random drives and maybe drive quickly.

Low of 25mpg and high of 35mpg in my ancient 140hp 2.0. Adjust your right foot and avoid loads of short journeys to improve the MPG.

No trip in an Audi - seriously? My Skoda has one, actually even the el cheapo 1.2 with keep-fit windows that cost half as much had one. Ten years ago.

I've also only ever brimmed the tank and it usually gets run until the light comes on. Filling up more than I have to is just a waste of my time. If I have to only fill up once a month then it's all the better.

FSI, I think OPs is a non FSI

Plus look at the others - ignoring the people saying how awesome their diesels are of course

We posted the same thread.

I'd have thought the old 1.6 had been phased out by 07, but it sounds like the older engine with that fuel economy.

The log book will say if its an FSI.
