Does this sound right (xfx rma)

I bet they sent you a card that had already been returned. Sounds like the sort of thing they would do.

TBH this is what happens, they never give you a brand new card back - it's always refurbed and near-dead ones. First time I sent my X2 in, I got a duffer back.

A full refund or store credit to that amount is what I would chase after first in future.

I actually received a private message today from someone on their support forum who had rma'd a 275, he gave me a serial number, so that i could check that it wasnt his broken card.

Nope, it wasnt the same number, not to say that it could have been someone elses broken card though.

if it ran for a few hours, technically it wasnt broken when they gave it to you. Ive had a second hand 8800gts work fine for a decent amount of time, to die when i moved the whole pc into the next room....considering i didnt even pick it up (just pushed along the floor slowly) it was pretty fail :(.

I havent bought xfx since i had 4 dodgy 7950gt's in a row. Then i found out it was my power supply spiking under heavy load (only crysis was heavy enough apparently, not furmark and prime etc) and causing it to fsk whichever output was in use.

Damn mate, that's really bad news, isn't this the same way your 280 went?

That's the exact same thing that happened to my 8800GTX and 9800GT, I managed to sort the 8800 by baking it, though it was well out of warranty, I am not suggesting for one minute that you bake this card!!!

You must be raging over this setter, I'd probably be throwing my PC out of the window if this happened to me!!!

::edit::

after reading chemicals post, I wonder if maybe your PSU could be the cause of these cards dying like this?

God knows how you could go about testing something like this.

BTW, be prepared to wait a while when you send this one back, they still haven't booked my PSU in for testing yet, it's coming on for 3 weeks since they received it now, needless to say I'm getting pretty ****** off with them now.

Dont think its a psu issue, on the main system im running a 750w thermaltake toughpower, second rig has an enermax galaxy 650w, my 8800gt runs fine in the main pc, 3 year old bfg 8800gts 640 goes great as well on the 2nd rig. My gtx 280 ran great for almost a year, sent it off and it was tested and found to be at fault. The 275 is with my nephew at the minute, he's gonna try it in his 4 systems to verify that it is indeed faulty.

@Davy, indeed iam mate, thought this ordeal was finally over, actually worse than the 280, least with it i could run windows, only started artifacting in game, the 275 artifacts on login screen (on 2 systems). Absolutely fed up with this, more phone calls, emails and haggling to come.

Not sure, ive tested it on my 2 separate systems, both had the same result, my 7300gt and 8800gt work fine on both systems, as does the 640mb 8800 gts. Ive put in an offer for an 850w corsair hx psu on mm, was gonna get one anyway.

@Badas, on the 280 mate, even increasing fan speed to 100% only let me play for a few mins more, once the card hit 75c it sarted artifacting, hence the original rma, replacement card cant even get into windows, arifacts and blue screens.

I was eyeing that PSU up as well mate, but the missus is being tight with the CC atm so I'm not allowed to make an offer :(

Don't know if you spotted my edit above, about being prepared to wait a while when you send this card back, it's coming on 3 weeks now since they've had my PSU and it's still not even been booked in for testing yet.

I sent them an email yesterday, and they told me they have a huge backlog of stuff to be tested, and that they are sorry for any inconvenience caused...

I seen that mate, absolute disgrace. I was thinking the same, rma will take ages, ill probably just soldier on with the 8800gt till fermi is released. Concerning psu spikes, id have thought that if this was the case, my other cards would have been affected as well?

Dam that sucks :(

I have only had one GPU RMA and it was brilliant XFX 8800GTX - Not all bad!

Seems to be very strange with retailers, as earlier in the thread a guys OCUK 4870X2 broke and he was offered a £180 or 2x 5770s. Dead 8800GTX (emitted smoke out the back of the PC) was out of the one year retailer warranty by four months, sent it back to OCUK anyway and had a new Gigabyte GTX 260 OC on its way to me the next week :)

Im wondering if this could be a possibility? On my current thermaltake psu, theres 2 pcie power connectors, one 6 pin and one 8pin, the 8 pin connector has an adapter to step it down to 6, both cards that failed had dual power sockets, dual 6 pin on 275, 6 pin and 8 pin on the 280. All the other cards ive tested only needed the single 6 pin, (8800gts 640 + 8800gt). 7300gt was powered solely from the pcie slot. Or perhaps im clutching at straws, psu's arent my strong point.

I have bought lots and lots of products off this so called etailer and must say i have never ever had any problems like you are facing and i have returned plenty of faulty goods.

I always go into the shop if there is a fault tho as they get it tested while you wait and give you the option of a FULL refund or replacement of equal performance if found to be faulty.

All i can say is dont give up, they are usually awesome from every one of my experiences.
