Does this sound steep??

bargain!
My Brother charges £110 for an outside tap / tap replacement + vat + part

PS, you dont charge for time on small jobs, you charge for the Service. If you expected it to be so cheap... do it yourself, make a mess and call in a plumber at a later date.

Well if someone charges reasonable, you will go back to them again and again,, but I wont be having him back again. So in that way of thinking, he is drilling his job into the ground, cos no one will ask for his services a 2nd time, or thats how I see it anyway. Like I want a bathroom fitted but I wont be asking him.

Dude! he did not rip you off! £70 for that work is CHEAP!
Once again. it has NOTHING to do with the time it has taken to complete the work... its more a case of the services provided.
Perhaps he has done 1000s of these fittings, push fit, pollyplub or copper, he can complete the work in such a short time due to his experience.

What joining 2 pipes to a tap is hard todo is it? Even then it was a cheap plastic tap he bought. What makes me laugh,, such a simple job and its leaking within 1-2 months. Just thing how much he would want to fit a bathroom!!!

Why not learn to fix and do simple stuff yourself?

Stuff like this isn't so hard you can't get it done with a bit of knowledge and work, i think more people should learn to do stuff themselves, don't think of it as work and something to be avoided but as self development and a cheap way of getting something done! :)

Most people have a distorted sense of value, £70 for a leak is crazy, the plumbers costs are another issue although it's all linked, the value in a quick fix like that is tiny when you think about it.

If it was so easy why didnt you do it yourself?

I personally could have fixed the leaking pipe, by just blow torching some solder in the join, but Im in a wheelchair and my parents cant do that sort of stuff.. also It was the plumber guy who suggested we needed a new tap,, I would have said no, but hey....

So you paid for a service you couldnt do yourself? So when everybody else is saying its a reasonable price I'm not sure why your so insistent it was a rip off. You paid for the guys knowledge and abilities and several people have commentented it was a fair price yet you really seem to feel some sort of injustice.

Basically get a handyman, far cheaper, thats what we are trying to get for the bathroom sweet tobe fitted. he will prob charge £100 - £200, but at least he shouldn't overcharge for the job,, cross fingers

Phil, i am sorry, this topic has to come to an end...

95% of replies say "Good Price" you say "Rip off"

why start this thread if you already know the answer.

Would a so called friend charge you tho?? and he was doing it on passing, so no traveling expense

He's not a friend though is he? He's a friend of a friend. IT support wise I fix computers for 40 quid for friends of friends, My normal rate. Only they get priority, not a price drop.

I think he's stitched you up, and I wouldn't call him a mate, best get charging your "other" mate for all of your time when sorting his computer :)
