Dog attack

Dogs do fight, it's the nature of the beast, it sounds to me like the owner was a tool, but tbh I don't think the fighting is anything to make a fuss over.

Whatever happened to the concept of having a well trained pleasant dog? The only dogs that will fight in an open public space are undisciplined ones.

As has been said, how can you blame the other dog whilst YOURS was not on the leader? Just put it to lack of experience and move on. Hope your dog is fine though, cool looking thing he is :)

I'm afraid there is a lesson to be learnt here. Keep your dog on a lead if you can't control it. Would you blame a car driver if he ran out into the road while not on a lead? Other dogs can be unpredictable, you can't just expect your dog to go running up to anyone completely out of control.

I would rephrase this if I were you or at least keep the hint of a private life out of the public domain lol "Nudge, nudge, wink, wink: say no more" :)

It's your responsibility to keep your dog on it's lead. If your dog had been on a lead then the situation wouldn't have happened.

I let my dog off the lead, but it took a lot of training before I did. You have to make sure you have complete control.

Hope your dogs ok.

Ahh nasty, get well soon Rocky!

Oh and to some of the earlier posts, yes, it is an owner's responsibility to have your dog under control in public, but how can you defend an attack of that nature? Sure a dog will snap if it is annoyed and/or cranky but grabbing Rocky by the throat and thrashing around? A dog like that simply shouldn't be allowed in public places without a muzzle on.

The other owner was extremely idiotic to shout at your mother while the dogs were fighting, however the police will just say that your dog should have been on a lead.

Sorry to hear about your dog though, hope it recovers ok :)

Sorry to hear that, Gilly. Keep us posted on how he's doing.

Naturally, some breeds are more dangerous and aggressive than others, but many dogs can act in ways you wouldn't expect. We have a large Siberian Husky (more Akita sized, really) but you still come across dogs that will have a go for no apparent reason, despite the obvious strength and size differences in many cases.

1st off I hope both your mum and Rocky are ok.

Hope you don't take this the wrong way and I'm not calling your mum a liar, but I'm sure the other guy saw it in a totally different lght. The dogs probably moved that fast that he couldn't tell which dog started or who had hold of who. So he saw an off lead dog that wasn't being recalled run up to your dog and a fight ensued.

Due to the fact that his dog was under control, and yours unfortunatley not recalling then I think the law won't be able to do anything, strictly speaking dogs should be under control at all times in a public place, and if Rocky wasn't obeying when being recalled then he wasn't under control.

The extenable leads can be be bought for a great deal of different breeds, there is even one that will hold something the size of a rottweiler or Akita, and I was toying with the idea of getting one for Archie so he could have a bit more of a run. However at 5 months old and walking him everyday I know how strong he is now and wouldn't want one, let alone for when he is 18 months old.

If it looked like a pitbull it was probably something like an american bulldog as they look a lot like pitbulls, or a staffy cross.

However if a fight did kick off then he should've done something to stop it as he was closest, if he didn't then he should be ashamed of himself. How was the fight stopped if the guy didn't do anything, did you mum break it up?

Again hope you mum is ok and rocky gets better soon.

I once nearly killed a dog that grabbed mine by the next, some scruffy old pitbull grabbed muh ikkle baby alsation by the neck to which i pulled my dog behind me and gave off the most lethal and powerful volley to its head and i belive i heard it yelping while it scuttled away,

the next day it came for me to which i kicked it at a car... It started to run and instead of running away i just lined up another clean hit volley this time straight at its face knocking it out.

I swear to god, when it bit my dog i have never been as scared! My dog was my world, sadly she was put down last year but still, i hated it when it happened, and then when it came for me!

Nearly broke my foot, but either that or not have one!

Bloody animal, i cant stand them dogs anyway, you can actually be stereotypical of them and 95% of the time be correct.

if a pitbull (unconfirmed) or a bull terrier, had a dogs throat in its mouth and ragged it would have quite simply done a hell of allot of damage. little hope of survival basically. and its not mentioned on how the dog let go of rocky ? a bull terrier wouldn't of just let go.

I dont think whole story is being told.

Either way glad he's ok

EDIT: sorry just dont like people talking badly about bull terriers (not saying anyone has), any dog can be nasty, and 99% of the time its the owners, some of the owners of bull terriers think ''bull terriers are vicious dogs'' so they train it like that. idiots

there is a guy that walks his dog in the same area i take my springer spaniel and he has his on one of those retractable clicking leads and his dog is a monster english bull terrier. If that dog suddenly snaps and goes for another dog there is no way one of those clicking leads is going to stop it.

Sorry to hear Gilly, hope your dog recovers OK.

But I seriously doubt you'd have 'killed' the dog, you don't mess with Pitbulls if that is what it was.
