BTW all these people telling us about how they kicking dogs when they are out on walks...your all really hard, respect! :)

/sarcasm off

I dont think many people mean it in that way, just the point that we'd rather not, but would if it was really getting stupid, I've never kicked a dog, yet I have been attacked many times.

First of all, I would never allow my dogs to attack/bite anyone (or anything), but if I saw anyone kicking or mistreating them, I would be moved to serious violence.

If the dogs tried to bite someone, and I have every doubt that they ever would, I'd be the first to go over there and deal with them appropriately. I would never let them far enough away from me for them to have the opportunity though.

It is the owners that are at fault here. Don't blame the dogs.

If a dog is inclined to bite, get aggressive, or is seriously disobedient, then the owners should keep it on a lead and invest in a muzzle.

The thing that a lot of dog owners don't seem to realise is that it actually does not take too much to knock someone off a bike and teeth on legs are a fairly major distraction.

All those who say "Oh he wouldn't hurt a fly" I don't know that! When i see a dog running at me at full speed i don't want to hang around to find out!

Those who say that they would "sort me out" if i kicked their dog - fine, but remember that if you have your dog under control you won't need to, and that if i end up with a broken leg after being knocked off by your dog it is you, not the dog, who could end up in court.

I know that the majority of dog owners are responsible people, and i'm sure the dog owners in here fall into that catergory and therefore we have no need to worry about passing each other :)

Nice to see some1 actually cares properly about their dogs :)

Im sure your dogs have nothing to fear from my boot but saying that my gran had a dog that was the nicest thing in the world, it loved everyone, until one day it just bit my mother, 6 of us in the room had no idea why. Unfortunately we had it put down, it was the last thing any of us expected to happen but it did, :(

:D fat lump cant even walk half a mile before he sounds like hes gonna roll over and die. :)

I love dogs :)...

But the minute one attacks me, I will defend myself, regardless of what anyone says they'll do to me for it.

If that means a sharp boot to its face, then so be it.

@ Seraphim

personally i cant stand bike riders, what is it with there lycra get up anyway and when i'm driving there the worst irratant in the world.

brandish all dog owners as overweight and lazy is ridiculous and basically i will now look at you as someone who goes about complaining about everything all time judging by your story

the parks are there for dogs as well as humans, if you dont like it then try and change your bike root

actually you first statement might have been you but without the dog, maybe thats why you had to buy a bike

fonetech,
It doesn't matter if its in a "dog only walking path" (not that there are any) if that dog attacked someone, on a bike... does that mean its ok because its for dogs only etc?
I see dogs walking along private land that they are not supposed to be walking on... does that mean its ok for me to go ahead and kick them for no reason? does that mean I can go and scream at it and run at it, and try and bite its feet?
I have told the walkers that they are not allowed to walk through these fields (I have permission from land owners) and all but one basically told me to f-off

People are not saying they would just start kicking and bashing a dog for no reason, there have been a few comments like this, I doubt anyone here would kick at dog unless it was absolutly needed, and even then, half of us would probaly try to fend off before giving them the go aways. If it was the owner that ran up to me hanging off my leg... they would get a nice kick in the face sooner than later though.

I shall respond to your most eloquent arguments, good Sir, in the order they were presented...

1. We wear lycra because it makes us hot. Well, it does me anyway. Also because you need padding on your arse if you're going to sit in the saddle for hours at a time... Oh, and don't get me started on car drivers - you'll bring the beardy militant cyclist out in me.

2. You seem to have summed me up quite well - I do indeed go round complaining about everything, I am an intolerant old fart at the ripe old age of 23. Students, the homeless, the elderly, kids, politicians and moped riders are all on my ever-increasing hate list. I estimate that the list currently encompasses about 90% of the world's population. The other 10% I'm kind of apathetic about, really.

3. Despite the money I've spent on it, my bicycle doesn't appear to have one of these roots of which you speak. Maybe I should enquire at my local bike shop and see if they've got any? Do you think it would make the bike any lighter?

4. And no, unfortunately, the flowing prose in the beginning paragraph wasn't a self-portrait of a former me - it was a sweeping generalisation, something that I am so fond of making.

Love you, bye!

Not a very good solution for people out jogging/running and cycling then do you not think? :)

It doesn't always work out like that, and I wouldn't want to stand around to find out.

Any how, should people walking on the path move out of the way and stand really still with their dogs held? no, I never expect that, I always go around them, even if it means I have to cycle over part of the field.
