dirtydog said:In fact I suspect that all of those owners whose 'harmless' dogs maul someone are exactly the same as yourself.

From what I have read and heard, owners precisely like yourself have had their dogs turn nasty without warning. You obviously believe that it is impossible that it could happen with you. Such complacency and arrogance is dangerous.MNuTz said:if all dog owners where like me then there wouldnt be any mauling, or dogs in homes. Please do not compare me to people that:
Buy dogs for security reason.
Buy dogs purely because they look mean.
Buy dogs for a hard image.
Mistreat dogs.
Train dogs to fight.
Do not spend time with their dogs.
let my dogs run around free without supervision.
Come round and see my dogs for yourself, you judge!
Its crap, you cannot put all dog owners in one group. I care for my dogs, they are well fed, well exercised and are a part of my family. If for one second i thought that a dog was becoming dangerous, it would be put down. I would never take the risk, i would never see an innocent person hurt because i loved my dogs too much to have the best thing done.
its all about being a resposible owner. As i said, dogs do not just 'snap', there are always warning signs. It just depends if the owner cares enough for the dog to notice them.
FirebarUK said:I think unfortunately those people who DON'T train their dogs, and whose dogs do run up to children (and adults!) and cause trouble spoil it for many
I admire you for actually training your dog rather than letting it do whatever it wants.
If you get a Dog, you should DEFINATELY train it. I aim to get a Belgian Sheepdog thingy or a Golden Retriever and it will be fully trained so I don't need to have it on a lead. That's what my Wife did with her previous dog, proper training = no need for a lead imo.

I thought you had said that your dogs would not turn on anyone because you are such a good owner? If I am mistaken and you accept that they might do then I apologiseMNuTz said:And if you read back over my posts, you will see that im neither complacent nor arrogant
If I am not mistaken then my comment stands. The amount of times I've heard dog owners say that!Rikk said:I cycle over by a local lake, 5 times now in 4 months I've been chased and attacked by dogs who "woulnd't hurt a fly", "is harmless and having fun", "likes to chase things" according to their owners.

MNuTz said:My local garage had a rotty puppy, now they get big fast. It looked mean but was a lovely dog. Until someone came in off the street and just laid into her. He beat her so bad that they can no longer bring her into the garage, she is afraid of people and may attack someone.
That's what I thoughtMNuTz said:My dogs in my home would attack no one.
...
i know that they will not attack someone
Sorry but no you don't 'know' because they are animals with minds of their own.dirtydog said:That's what I thoughtSorry but no you don't 'know' because they are animals with minds of their own.
