Dolby Atmos 5.1.2 front height speaker experience?

I have a 5.1.2 setup and its amazing. It just seems to fill the gaps in space which didn't have sound previously. Its subtle but nice.

It reminds me of when I got a subwoofer and added it to my 5.0 setup. It fills in whats missing. The difference is the subwoofer also does things no other speakers can dream of doing.

Imagine if you had two powersound s-7201's

I have just bought into a 5.1.2 setup as well and it has really transformed my viewing pleasure.

I have been researching and tweaking for almost 2 weeks and have finally got it sounding just right. I can now clearly tell the differences between different audio formats and due to that, I have spent a ton on UHD and Blu-ray.

I am fortunate to have the Atmos working with up firing speakers in my room as that can be tricky to get right. It is amazing how well it works and funny watching the family look up when the audio has a good Atmos overhead mix.

Installed ceiling speakers must sound even better and one day I may do it but not for now. :D

Ha, let me know how you get on! Also have you set all 4 as heights in the amp assignment or ceiling?
They're as heights.

Weirdly one front height speaker was in the down position with the other in up, can't believe it !

I've now put them both down and tbh things sounds more collapsed. Going to put them back to normal they fire at the MLP. Seems that somehow the direction switch on the alteco does do something , how I don't know!

If I had to choose is probably have rear heights 5.1.2

7.1 is nice to have, in certain situations you may hear something behind you or have a sweet panning effect but it's true our ears are insensitive to sounds behind us and I'd prioritise a good 5.1 baselayer and go from there.

There's a big jump in price for receivers that can do 11 channels.
