Hello,

I currently run 2 x 2Gb corsair dominator ram.

i believe they are rated at 1066Mhz

This is now a discontinued product but i would like to add another 2 x 2Gb sticks as im doing a lot of photography stuff and my ram is almost maxing out during raw processing.

Can any one recommend a compatible ram kit?

manythanks

From reading the spec of the dominators they should run perfectly with these - link.

They have the same voltage, frequency and timings.

Could you confirm the exact model of your memory just to be sure.

wow - what an amazing responce - thankyou.

CPU-Z reports the following.

PART # --> CM2X2048 - 8500C5D -
there are 2 of these - one in slot 1 the other in slot 3.

TIMINGS--->
400MHz
5:6 FSB
5.0 CL
5 tRCD
5 tRP
18 tRAS
23 tRC
2T CR

Thank you for the help

Looks like the Kingston HyperX i linked to should be a perfect match.

Timings and frequency are identical - although your dominators are running at 5 5 5 18 and not 5 5 5 15 (which they can) but you can drop the hyper X to 18 if needed.

The voltages for both are 2.0/2.1v (from googling) - but what does it say in the SPD tab?.

Yep - the Kingston HyperX should be fine - identical spec.

No guarantee that they'll work of course (but they should) - if you run into problems trying to get all 4 sticks stable post back.

nice one - thankyou v much plec :)

No problem.

If you do run into problems try bumping up the MCH voltage (north bridge) an increment or two. As using all the memory slots puts additional stress on the memory controller and as a result in somtimes requires extra juice to keep things stable.

Just checking that you have the 64 bit version of your operating system installed so you can make use of 8GB.

And according to your CPU-Z validation you're only running your existing RAM at 800MHz.

As above regarding OS.

I missed the frequency setting in your list - you are indeed runnig under spec.

You need to go into the BIOS and manually set your frequency, timings and voltage.

Hey,

I am using win7 ultimate x64.

I used to have ram and cpu over-clocked a treat on xp but on win 7 it always seems unstable.

Just to be sure - can i please ask you what i should manually set my frequency, timings and voltage to?

Edit - thinking about it... Re the unstablity, shortly after installing win7 i had to send both sticks of ram back on rma to corsair Holland as they were failing on test. I have not tried upping any settings since the replacements arrived :)

You need to set the frequency to 1066, the timings to 5 5 5 15 and the voltage to 2.1V (max) - you may be able to lower this setting later after testing.

EDIT: you beat me to it.

sweet - im of to play with my bios. Will order the recommended ram on Tuesday when i get paid. Have just read the reviews and it looks ideal. :D

Thanks again for such speedy helpful answers. -

*quite chuffed i got the answer rite btw :p

Edit

i changed the settings and low and behold system is showing marked improvements - especially with raw format photo editing. I have also been able to OC a q9550 to quite a respectable 3.4MHz quickly by using a pre saved bios profile form ages ago as a starting point. System ran stable on prime95 torture test for an hour - time will tell if its really stable. i am downloading some benchmarking software and must say im fully enthused again having resined my self to a standard ok speed pc.

ok - ram ordered yesterday - arived today + free postage.

Fantastic.

I shall be fitting later this evening. The only prob i have now is despite setting timings and frq manually in bios cpuz still shows the ram at 800Mz :'(

I am going to strip it down a bit for full clean and check everything over when i fit the ram and then have a play with bios settings. The new ram is rated at 2.3v on the sticks them selfs - *fingers crossed it will all work

Delta9 - what exactly does CPUz say - are you looking at the memory tab?

An image would be useful.

Did you remember to save and exit when leaving the BIOS?

The new ram is rated at 2.3v on the sticks them selfs - *fingers crossed it will all work

Try the memory at 2.1V - it will probably be stable. If you do have stability issues up the MCH an increment or two.
