DON'T BUY MSI THEY MIS-SOLD TOP SPEC GT SERIES LAPTOPS with MXM Graphics

Yup, there is a lot of wrong doings here, no matter which way you look at it, MSI customers feel screwed over and it's up to MSI to fix that. If they choose not to or give us a bum deal, we have every right to complain until we get what is owed to us. We are also entitled to share our opinion/facts and help raise awareness of this to help other gamers, we are supposed to be a "community" after all...

anyway, update from neil called me before he left work; the invoice has been cancelled and big boss man has waived it, so back to the deal now, which should be sent monday as it's too late now.

Soooo hopefully, we get a payment sent monday and i receive laptop during my week off :D - I've asked if shipping can be express due to the inconvenience caused.

I quizzed is laptop model i choose available still, neil confirmed it should be, however in the event it's not a model with the same 1070 or even a slightly higher spec machine could be given if they can't honour the other one due to lack of stock etc.

and i would say this is a result and Neil is a top man . cant say this is not good .

and i would say this is a result and Neil is a top man . cant say this is not good .

Neil may be, yet he still has to comply with HQ;

Misleading customers by advertising something that never materialised.
Misleading customers by advertising a replacement program as being cost comparable to an MXM GPU upgrade, but actually basing it on how MSI values the customers notebook and the SRP of a new notebook.
Not making customers aware of the issue.
Taking ridiculous lengths of time to resolve.

All that is required is that MSI actually do what the trade-in scam says they will 'at a cost comparable with previous MXM upgrades'. Not some guestimated price MSI assign to our notebooks vs some SRP for the new notebook.

MSI continues to lose potential customers every day day because of this ongoing pathetic attempt to make their customers pay for MSI's error.

yea neil seems he has the right attitude i.e good customer service, but unfortunately seems to be held back by HQ in terms of what he can do.

Plus the time zones and constant travel of senior management makes it very hard to get even a quick confirmation.

anyway, i think it's a kind of a result, i mean i get what was offered the 1070, not at the same price, but close enough....

can't say i'll be buying another MSI anytime soon, however new laptop should be good for 2 years minimum so see what the future holds....

OK had my payment confirmation and made the payment!

Now we wait for funds to clear and shipment of laptop!

I'm off work this week so hopefully.... just hopefully.... i get it this week :D

cmon msi dont let me down! lol

Yeah still waiting to pay for my laptop it's really ****ing me off refreshing my email ever 5 secs hahaha and keeping 880 quid in my bank account isn't easy !

How do the costs of your trade-in compare to MSI's original advertised MXM upgrade?

MXM GTX 1070 - £672 (inc' vat and delivery)
MXM GTX 980M - ebay uk (selling in the last few weeks for ~£400)

Total cost of upgrade = ~£272

The 6700HQ offers a +/- 5% increase over Haswell and DDR4 at present offer no benefits in gaming.

Was that one of the faulty ones you had to RMA?

I only had 1 faulty laptop and yes it was the GT73VR 6RE , I sent it back under the 30 day DOA . i then got the finance cancelled and bought elsewhere with an extra 3 months to pay so i went with the new 7RF with 1080 & 7820 .

tropicola has the 15in version coming but im thinking these are out of stock and he will get the 7 series instead .

Lucky for you, others had multiple bad MSI notebooks they had to RMA.

I wonder the cost comparison with an actual MXM upgrade?

GT72VR 6RE 234UK Thats the original machine i was going to purchase cash but instead went for the GT73VR and got finance but turned out to be faulty along with a few other lads with exact same laptop and seemed to be a batch problem .

my new GT73VR 7RF is spot on and cant believe the power of the thing and even got it hooked up to a 32in 4k gysnc screen and its amazing . just recorded a video of F1 2016 and uploading a video to you tube with a race in 4k , had to split the files though as would have been 25gb upload instead of 5x5gb uploads . in F1 2016 it keeps a solid 60fps (screen hz) .

will be doing more vids and uploading to YouTube over coming weeks . necer really used you tube before even with main rig .

No we both know it's not very close to the "actual cost" although to be fair it's cost me cheaper than a 1070 @ 560ish without the sale of my card is the thing that's missing. which to be fair is not really their concern, just a shame they can't send us the 980m back instead and referb the laptop/gfx card then we would be evens.

however i'm happy its better than the 1k or no upgrade, so we did get somewhere of a middle ground, as i said they will lose business for this so it's going to hurt MSI. maybe they learn from it, i don't know...

and in regards to the 6700HQ 6th series, i had the original laptop with the 4th series 4720HQ

surely i'm getting more than a 5% performance update?

the 980m 4gb to a 1070 8gb version

the 8gb ddr3 ram to the 16gb ddr4 ram

haven't really looked at the ssd other features but i think i get some kind of disc drive upgrade and maybe the ssd is faster?

think the screen/case is pretty much the same however

this is why i don't mind paying just that little extra just get get this sorted once and for all, and end of day i do get a slightly better laptop in the end which i wouldn't have got with just a graphics upgrade (or a nice clean new one either with the keyboard problem neil agreed to waiver)

Either MSI should allows us to remove and resell our existing GPU or they should purchase it from us at the market rate. The only reason to not do this is decrease the cost of MSI's screw up when they advertised the GT series as upgradable.

I agree this will hurt MSI. By 'middle ground' you mean the customer paying a contribution for MSI's screw up?

Nope, less. Only 4% performance increase - http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-6700HQ-vs-Intel-Core-i7-4720HQ/m34954vsm20045

the 980m 4gb to a 1070 8gb version

This is what we should be paying for, nothing else.

I on the other hand do mind paying to fix a multi-billion pound multinational corporation's mistakes.

A business of this size should have the integrity to fix it's own mistakes and apologise to it's customers for the inconvenience.

560ish is a great price for the upgrade and a fresh 2 year warranty . defo big upgrade . i know its not what this is all about its all about the GPU .

Only if you did not buy a an MSI GT notebook with the intention of upgrading the MXM GPU like MSI advertised, if you did however, you are paying for MSI's mistake and there's no way that could possibly be a "great price" to pay.

yea it's not a great price to pay, and i shouldn't be doing it, however it's a means to and end and it's a more reasonable price....

i just hope neil chucks in a accessory pack for most people or game vouchers for the **** up :)

This wait for payment is ****ing me right off now. What email did they email you from tropicola because I'm about to go loco on there asses I can't stand another day of refreshing my email every 5 mine and disappointment.
