Doom 3 - BFG edition

The slightly depressing thing about this release is that 8-9 years later few games have bettered this style of gameplay & it still looks decent in places due to the way consoles are holding back the PC :(

The original UK retail media was 4 x CD's & a long winded install so I am looking forward to upgrading to this retail package as its under £14 if you look around online pointless paying the silly inflated Steam prices when all copies install on Steam anyway ;)

Yes, that is always annoying. Why can't they just release games across the world on the same day?

I bet many think, US are able to play today, you know what? I'll torrent it as I'm not waiting..

Number of times I've had to use a VPN to play a game I've paid for on Steam as its not released for another week in the UK. Really unfair..

Anyhow, enjoy your game tomrrow.. I'm thinking of getting a copy myself, Doom 3 is still a good game, I enjoyed it.

Half Life 2 was much better IMO but Doom 3 was also VERY good. Enjoyed them both, still play Half Life 2 to this day..

will it unlock at 12am UK time ?
 
I'm tempted by this, the Doom series is something I totally missed in my gaming career... So yea, for £20 I don't see why I won't enjoy the hours spent playing through them.

Yes, it will unlock midnight tonight, then you will be able to register your steam key and play your game..

All Steam games region locked unlock at midnight, we've all been their, sat at our PC's ready for 11.59pm to roll into midnight so as we can play that game we've payed good money for..!!

totally agree. If you've never played Doom before, any of them at all then shop around, £14.99 will get you three great games, although Doom 1 and 2 are VERY old, graphically you'll go - erm... what is this? lol

Doom 3 however is very nice looking even by todays standards.

it already allowed me to register the key.
hope it doesnt say already in use when i come to install the game lol.

Same, I thought HL2 was excellent but preferred Doom. Even though the humans now look a little dated, (the hexagonal heads for example), the engine, lighting, art direction and mazy levels still hold there own against far newer stuff.

I built my first SLI system to play it at 1600x1200 on a 19" 4;3 CRT, 2x 6800gt with a 939 FX55. I was soooo happy when I got 60fps in the time demo :D. I might get an Oculus Rift for this once it's available in retail.

I'm really excited about Doom 4 too, I didn't get all the hate levelled at RAGE, I played it all the way through and can see the potential of the new engine, didn't Carmack say it'd have four times the level of detail vs RAGE? How people can whine about it and then run off and play COD is beyond me, each to their own I suppose.

no it's the lack of technology that's holding back modern shooters...i.e gaming will blow your socks off in 100 years time.... you can not make a shooter appear/play like real life and that's what's wrong

anyone know a fix for the first two games to get them to display at full 1920x1080 res? ie no black borders either side?
 
So is there any improvements to the PC version.

i think it's suggested that you use a mod at the same time to get the best graphical performance.

Funny how ID release this game again, to tie people over whilst Doom 4 is being secretly made. Just before xmas too nice move ID

Release a upgraded version of a 2004 game = profit :)

this game already has a high res texture mod and it's better than this new release, in fact; Doom 3 has loads of mods :D:D

but this game has the ``missing mission`` DLC and it's supposed to be quite long

some tweaks some may find useful

seta com_allowConsole "1" alter in base file default cfg

fov change is g_fov 80 or seta g_fov then value in cfg

to disable intro movies go straight to game com_skipintrovideos 1
g_showHud 0 to disable hud

r_gamma then value



seta r_brightness "1.2"
seta r_lightscale "2.6"
