Doom 4 screenshots

The screen shots look amazing from a art prospective. I really enjoyed RAGE as one of ID's current generation games, cant wait to see what they do with Doom 4.

For a stand alone game it was O.K, but to put the DOOM title on it, hell no.

the worst part was having to get the torch out every 5 seconds and not being able to wield a weapon whilst doing so.

nothing like 1+2 where it was just pure fun.

The idea behind the torch was a game mechanic designed to give the game more suspense and scare you as you had to decide wether you wanted to see what was ahead or be able to shoot.

I thought Doom 3 was great also... each to their own :)

The worst part was the lack of enemies, not once did i feel the need to back pedal whilst desperatley reloading & looking for an escape route.

I see the torch excuse rolled out in most Doom 3 threads. You do know it was there for a game-balancing perspective right? If you want to play the realism card then it's pretty easy to pull even games like Half-Life apart.

I'm looking forward to Doom 4, but the long silence on the whole thing is a little unnerving. I'm not sure whether it means that there's nothing good to show or that iD just want to get on with making it as good as it can be.

They really should have at least shown something about it at Quakecon.

Did you complete the game? Certainly running into a room with all guns blazing would work early on, but trying it on with a couple of hell knights in that way would just get your head ripped off your shoulders in rapid time?

i understand why they did it, just it didnt work, at least not for me.

this was also an issue, but i still think the torch buisness takes the award for most retarded game feature to grace a doom title.

Of course not. Thats because half the encounters with enemies were a) Something attacking you through a doorway just as you open it or b) Something attacking you from behind because the door/path in front of you was blocked.

I never saw anything in Doom 3 either, almost nothing about it felt like it deserved to be part of the DooM franchise. To me it seemed more like a bad attempt at a 'really scary' horror game with a lack of lighting (I also hated the flash light mechanics).

I thought Doom 3 was excellent, although I never bothered with the multiplayer. I never liked the creepy demonic stuff though (even though that's what's it's about lol).

I enjoyed Doom 3 and looking forward to another Doom game.

Those screen shots could easily be from Rage, not a bad thing since I enjoyed that as well.

Those screenshots tho looking fairly good from an art perspective - tho a little rudimentary in places - are somewhat lacking a sense of tension to be a doom game the environments should have some subtle sense of uneasiness. Lets hope its just one part of the game.

I really enjoyed Doom 3 as a horror game in it's own right and have played it several times since launch and still enjoy it. But I don't think it had much to do with classic Doom apart from the general story ideas and concepts.

I would really like to see the 'hordes' return to the gameplay in doom, with wide, non-linear map designs. I want to be able to engage multiple targets simultaneously, from multiple directions with a real sense of danger, even being forced to retreat on occasions. There were some moments like this in Doom 3 and especially the expansion pack, but not nearly enough and not to the scale I would like. Also we need more large open arena fights, e.g. a large city block with multiple cyberdemons roaming the streets looking for you. Also, non of that soul cube crap, I want to take down a cyber demon with my double barrelled shotgun dammit!
