doomsday prepper.

I watched perhaps three or four episodes from the first season of this series before giving up completely on it. I was quite amused by the American who had so meticulously planned his course of action should his country be targeted by an EMP (Electro Magnetic Pulse - think Revolution) either by nature or enemy forces. He was so well stocked up with provisions / ammunitions / weapons and his cunning plan hinged on driving out of the city!

What really done it for me was the American who decided his kids need to learn to shoot should they need to fend for themselves when the apocalypse comes. Being the safety concious person he was he took his two very young kids out to the middle of no where and demonstrated to them how to fire a gun. Said gun then recoiled and almost ripped one of his fingers off - good job the camera crew had a qualified first aider because he clearly didn't include that in his plans.

The only thing I learned from watching three or four episodes is how ******* stupid, gullible and paranoid Americans really are! Now I'm not about to judge an entire nation on the idiotic antics of a few miss guided individuals but America you're not doing yourselves any favours promoting this kind of **** viewing across the pond!

Bringing the subject back onto topic OP - no, I personally don't practice "prepping". I do believe I have sufficient stored in my property to see us through a few weeks should the worse happen. And if we need to move out and relocate we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Nothing to do with recoil he was just a tard and had his thumb over barrel, he then passed out multiple times.

If it was a nuke i would prefer to head on down to the center of London to make sure i get a zero hit.
If i was in the UK i would never want to survive a nuke attack prefer to get direct hit from the bomb would not even feel it, infact i would prefer that than to die of old age related illness.

Hi All

I have been watching a program called doomsday preppers and it is litterally about American's views on what the "doomsday" will look like and how they are preparing for it, obviously being American they prep to the extreme, I am starting to think that maybe a little prepping is a good idea, I'm pretty sure my wife would think I am crazy but surely it doesn't hurt to have a couple of weeks at least worth off food water and medicine, not enough to make me a target though. Also maybe I should have a "bug out" plan of meeting places and possible escape scenarios?

Am I crazy? Does anyone hear practice any prepping?

I think at some point there will be a food restriction, but whether that will impact on us severely remains to be seen. Stocking up on some tinned food isn't a bad idea, though I don't think you need to yet. If things turn out for the better, then at least you won't have to visit the supermarket for a week or few. :D

The irony is that you get into the mindset of a doomsday, you may not notice it, but i can bet you will be willing this doomsday to occur to make you feel better about doing all that prepping.

Subconsciously you become the problem.

This affects morons ultimately, illogical, linear minded, brainwashed idiots.

Happy days. :D

I'm a bit late to the game with this thread but my friend just put me onto this show, these people are loopy. They seem incompetent at best, like the guy who half shot off his thumb.

Fair enough having enough kit for a few days in the case of a natural disaster makes sense. e.g. a few days supply of food, a water filter and a small solar panel to charge a phone and radio for calling help or to check the news, that should see you until someone comes to help.

What makes me laugh is people focussing on a specific event and they're 100% sure it'll happen despite scientists and experts saying otherwise. The other thing is most of their plans and theories don't seem well thought through at all and they don't like like they'd hold up in a physical survival lifestyle.

Entertaining show though :)

I was wondering whatever happened in New York, everyone had a weeks warning of what was going to happen with a fair degree of certainty, yet none of they appeared to bother buying a few bottles of water, a bag of noodles and some candles. Yet they were first on the streets bleating about how the government wasn't there helping them.

Fec kless spongers, the lot of them.

Yes it is. Don't use it.

2nd series has started :)

Here's a post from a forum about someones experiences from the worst hit area.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My father and I are not the most experienced nor the most equipped preppers, that much I would concede right at the start. We are , however, moderately intelligent, quite wordly experienced and in different ways and areas, and pretty good at shopping. So we have a lot of prepping done in the years others take many many years to accomplish, and we are always keeping our eyes open and minds fresh. So we were not overly concerned come SHTF.

One thing we did get was a generator... my father had been looking for one for a long time. He finally found one at Cabelas the weekend before last and since it was an open box, he got like 50% off on an awesome model... Could not say no! Other than that we had plenty of food, plenty of guns and ammo, plenty of water, and plenty of energy to get the job done right. We spent what time we could topping off our preps, shopping for this and that, and making plans in case and getting our house and affairs in order.

Then came the storm. on Monday the power went out at about 2pm for a few hours, came back on. Then at night time, literally RIGHT AFTER we took our last bites of dinner and said, "Well its getting pretty sporty out there!" BOOM there goes the power! So we went outside, fired up the generator in the driveway/garage, closed the garage door halfway... And connected the strips of lights we had laid out, the sump pump, and the fridge.

The next morning, first thing, the annoying guy who is "Friends" with my Dad but absolutely hates me because I am 31 and live with my father, calls and gives him the whole "OH Can we borrow your generator?? Please?? Just for a few hours???"... AND WE MADE A PACT, NO ONE ESPECIALLY AND INCLUDING HIM was borrrowing ANYTHING *ESPECIALLY* the generator ... UNLESS lives were at stake, babies or young children were involved, or absolute pandamonium scenario was involved, we were saying Too Bad Soo Sad. Our neighbors have plenty of money, they just chose not to spend it.

I can't express my disappointment when he said he was giving away the generator to the neighbor but he did. WELL THAT WAS JUST THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG. The nextdoor neighbor older husband and wife who are pompous as hellz and hate us, "Well you are gonna let us borrow your generator right???" my Dad says, "Oh sorry we loaned it out already." "So when you get it back we can plug in then, right?" "Uhh... we will see how the situation is later". "Well what time is later are you expecting to get it back, we need to know when we can connect!".

Again, tip of the ice berg. Other people were randomly coming up asking if we were letting our neighbors use our generator (As in, can we borrow it even though we live three streets away and have no idea who you are)... People looking for gasoline, to attempt to use it to secure a DIFFERENT neighbors generator.... A Kid I graduated high school with I GOT INTO A FIGHT WITH SENIOR YEAR, Shows up knocking on my door to see if I could charge his cell phone, ... when I said we let it go to a neighbor, he asked if I could put some gas in his car from our gas cans cause he was on empty.

This is just some of the things. other neighbors who were bitter they had no generator and therefore no power for a few days had the intestinal fortitude to complain about the noise. But they would not mind the generator noise if they could plug in. One person even showed up asking if my Dad would take their kids for a ride on his Gator. (Its not legal to ride on the streets here, so basically some random guy tried to shake us down, like, we won't snitch on you if you entertain our kids.).

When the power went back on, THE STORES WERE EMPTY. So people were STILL in trouble because the grocery stores HAVE NO FOOD TO BUY. So people are STILL experiencing SHTF and they REALLY EXPECT you to help them. And not only that they have an attitude about it, like since we live in a townhouse community they can basically boss us around and tell us to share with them . Not going to happen, especially since we're the best armed and equipped. BUT it is SHOCKING how quickly people show up expecting you to fix their problems!

*** LET THIS BE A LESSON TO YOU ALL, and certainly to us as well *** If OpSec and keeping your own preps to yourself and taking care of yourself isn't a high priority, it HAS TO BECOME ONE. Because we just experienced, THE SHEEPLE EXPECT YOU TO FIX THEIR PROBLEMS and it DID NOT TAKE LONG for them to show it. And we didn't even get the water that bad! I can ONLY IMAGINE what could happen come post election SHTF.

I was looking on Amazon for survival supplies. Some of it, especially the food, seems quite expensive. To supply a family of three for more than a few days would cost a small fortune. I was tempted to buy a few survival essentials for the car though, just in case we break down in a snowstorm or something.

Not that I'm actually going to splash out on a lot of gear, but are there any better sites for getting this stuff?

check out Zombietactics food prepping for the lazy late and cheap.

You dont have to buy all the expensive survivalist foods.

Normal tinned food is fine and last for at least a year, some things like Tuna last longer, frankly most of it is still OK-ish after 4 years anyway. Just buy stuff you like and rotate it with your normal shopping.

Go Outdoors has some self heating meals for around £4-5, I've got one for my car (just in case) along with some water.
Stuff like wool and foil blankets are handy in case you have to pull over on a motorway, and the usual stuff like LED torches, spare phone, battery-powered phone charger.

Damn, now I feel mad because I think there is some sort of apocalypse coming! Some day in the next 30 years, the world will run out of oil, or rather it will end up to expensive to extract and buy on the scale we use today. So No food deliveries, no water or sewage pumping no electricity generation... Nothing new will be made as oil is required at at least one stage of Its manufacture. The food capacity of the planet will shrink to whatever level so billions will Die of starvation. But cba actually preparing or anything because meh. Google Peak Oil or Hirsch Report.

But here you're assuming that within the next 30 years no alternative means of powering every day transport will become mainstream.

We're seeing rapid growth in electric vehicles and battery technology improves each generation too.

Plus everything is pro Green these days, even Petrol cars are pulling amazing emissions and economy figures.

I think it is a safe assumption! When have humans or government ever done something this big, proactively? It would mean a massive drop in loving standards if we all prepare by growing our own food and not driving or using as much elec. on the scale that the entire world uses today? Something like 5% of our UK energy comes from renewable stuff. Electric cars require electricity from somewhere so add that to the list of electricity required. The IC engine is super efficienct. Oil and coal have the best energy per volume ratio of any potential fuel. Think about the energy required to make fertiliser, without fertiliser we will have crap crops... Either the land use required will double or we will go hungry as we won't be able to import food. It isn't a healthy thing to think about tbh!
