Good suggestions, I have just bought the survival guide, looking into the best water filter.
I would argue that it is probably better to surrender if survival is your only priority.
Why would you want washing stuff - the world is ended, who are you trying to impress with your lynx shower gel? Better off bringing some dried food or something instead of blooming soap.

Hoarding supplies and equipment is a great idea if you're serious about being prepared but at the end of the day, it's power in numbers. Once it becomes clear that some sort of collapse is imminent, I would immediately form a group that included family, friends, colegues and others who might have something in common with you. Grouping with random people is not a good idea, you must have something in common to build on.
It is also important to make sure you will be among the elite/leading party of your group. With the legal system down, this is the only way to protect yourself from abuse. A good way to make sure that happens is to form the elite group first. That includes friends and family, people who are already close to you. Then, I would get others who have nothing in common with each other so that they would be unable to form an opposition against the elite.
You must then get your group to live together and make plans to get supplies, find a sanctuary and take long-term measures for sustenance.

Back on Topic: Fine by me I've got an escape tunnel also Impenetrable and Immovable!
I think a small group would be best, because less mouths to feed. No strangers would be accepted into group as they would pose too much risk.
No. I finished the pizza and I'm now at the council offices planning dept. Your tunnel sucks and smells of wee.
The best is subjective and depends on how it'll be used. I have a Katadyn Combi with a silver impregnated ceramic filter element and an activated carbon post filter, it'll clean the scummiest water, make it drinkable and taste ok, however I don't use it that much as it's heavy and bulky when backpacking. I have a MSR mavity filter which isn't as thorough as the Katadyn but is half the weight, rolls up small, doesn't require pumping as it uses mavity and still produces safe drinking water. Both are good but for different reasons

What happens if all the petrol pumps run dry - how will the food get to you? If the electricity is shut off, the water system is contaminated and the petrol runs out, your screwed!
Good for you morale, and health, nothing worse than smelling like a dustbin. So definitely a bar or two of soap and toothpaste, get gum disease if not which will make you ill.
I've taught my boys how to make fire with flint, how to knap flint and how to make an atlatl and straighten javelins over flame, we have bows and a good assortment of other weapons.
We should be able to get to a coast steal a boat and cross to europe then coast hug down to the med or Africa for a clement climate in which to hole up.
