double glazing prices

Have a look if there are any local trade glazing suppliers that sell to the public, they will usually have / know local fitters who can do the fitting work too.

My parents did this with their last 2 houses and it has saved them a fortune.

Some very low quotes in this thread! Everest were quoting me 10-12k for 9 upvc windows and 2 composite doors. A local company with a good rep quoted 10k for the same.

Are people just using local independants?

where are you based?

Hampshire. Company are on check a trade under J K Home improvements. They are a great company. I also got my front door replaced by them and recommend them to anyone getting windows and doors replaced. quality of the windows and doors are great.

My main advice is stay away from the big companies Get like 6 quotes from local small indendants that dont have massive over heads.

SafeStyle came round to my house, they were round for about 2 hours giving me a load of spiel, they then showed me the 3 different types of window they had, bearing in mind everything was on a buy one get one free offer the quote for the cheapest was £11k and the most expensive was £20k+ I politely asked them to leave, a previous quote I'd had from another company was £3.5k :p Still haven't had them done mind.

We had one quite well known company quote us £28k to do our whole house. My dad subsequently told them to shove it up their anus and kicked him out the house, he was there for ages, complete waste of time. He came and knocked on the door 2 minutes later and said he would do it for £10k, my dad told him to **** off out of principal.

We later found a local company that done the whole lot for £8k and we have been very happy with them.

It disgusts me that they can get away with doing that, and vulnerable people actually pay the first price. They do this to old people. Makes me sick.

This,

We have a company in Dorset (well, many window companies in Dorset) who make them. Turn up at the factory and buy it from them. You'll save a charm

we had someone from a big company come round and refused to leave, I left my missus to it as I told her not to book an appointment...

they quoted 22k but 17k if we signed up there and then... in the end we got it done by a local firm for £5600 we did not even have to pay up front jsut signed a contract saying we would pay when the work was complete...

We've been thinking of getting our windows done... I'll keep in mind that you can expect at least half off the first offer.

best price from a small company we got front door, back door, double french doors, 4 large and 5 smallish and a round window for £5600 (compared to 10k+ from 2 large firms).

a good firm will be able to give local references of work they have done

Do not allow a company that sounds like 'Bleather Weald' (don't know if I'm allowed to say who it is on this forum) in to your house they train their staff to do a very deceptive pitch which includes....
Showing your house as a feature house for money off if you do the deal that day.
Stretching the sales pitch out as long as possible slowly turning it in to a well rehearsed high pressure sales pitch.
Offering you a ridiculously high price (think £15k-£20k), then when questioned will slash it and by the time you have kicked them out your getting over 60% off and the price is still way over the top.

Then you will receive daily phone calls from the 'manager' offering you even better prices but 'you need to do the deal right now'.

When they get the message that you will not be buying from them they will call you posing as a different company and if that fails your number will be sold to another unscrupulous company and it will be rinsed and repeated

They gave me the same BS about my wife having to be there as she made the appointment and there was also a "trainee" present :D

when they knocked at my door, they asked if i was the homeowner and whether i lived with gf/wife etc. why do they do this? do they think the sale is easier to push through if there are two people to aim at?

oh yeh i had that thrown at me too along with a 'discount code'. the more i think about their pitch, i wonder why anyone buys from these people.

Normally they prey on easy targets, people that cant say no or people that dont do there research and think that the second offer of 14k down from 22k is an amazing offer plus with the payment plan with 0% over 10years its cheap cheap....:D:D

On the front of our house we have 2 lots of 3x door sized windows that we want replacing with like a big folding glass wall. They quoted us 7.5k
7 and a half grand for windows?!?!
