DPD chucking boxes

Totally unsurprised. Happens every day. The parcels just become a chore and not to care for, and if it's damaged... oh well.. they don't care.

Even worked for a secure delivery service (temporarily as favour to a friend) containing valuable parts for workmen, and the attitude of the staff was disgusting. Throwing boxes from the warehouse to the vans outside etc... drop kicking on occasion if the parcel was small.

You get knob-heads at all couriers as they pay poor wages, but trading off between reasonable priced delivery or it possibly doubling, if they wanted/had to get better more "normal staff".

Of course, many of the staff will be 100% fine, it's just a small minority.

Maccies/KFC/BK is the same, do you think that every employee washes their hands after the bog!!! No chance.

No I'm with you but it's beyond our control. OCUK have chosen DPD based on a number of factors and I'd assume the amount of damaged goods was one of them.

DPD has certainly been the one that the least amount of goods turn up looking like they've been kicked around but sadly I've worked in too many warehouses to be under any delusion as to how some people treat stuff like that :( on the flipside I guess atleast they are working (if you call it that) rather than sponging off our taxes :S

Everywhere I've worked its been instantly dismissible to treat goods like that but sadly too few people are caught doing it.

*flame jacket on*
I used to work for Business Post, my first proper job as a Warehouse Supervisor as i used to work in the warehouse after school and 6th form and just sort of stuck at it for a little while.

We used to really lob boxes around at each other, into piles and into cages. Some things got broken, some things got "lost".
The reason being in my case was time and money. We didn't have enough staff to get things unloaded, sorted and deliveries out so we were all rushed to the point it got stupid. The manager and owner of the franchise was fully aware of the damage caused but did nothing to rectify it and just compensated the damage. They just wanted the deliveries out in time.

Sometimes it was large TVs, i even ran one over in my forklift...

Ahh, the good ol' days.

I've never had any bad experiences with DPD and they are by far my preferred delivery company. The blokes behind the counter at the Royal Mail sorting office on the other hand, they throw everything around.

My last OCUK order of speakers the DPD driver dropped walking to my house.. He said it was fine as it was packed well. Cheesed me off a bit but luckily OCUK do pack things well.

Yodel are amazing, I dont know how they are even in business... I had a van driver ringing my door bell, I opened it too quickly so he sprinted to his van and drove off rather rapidly.

I've had the opposite experience. Our local Yodel delivery person is a rather lovely young lady who goes out of her way to make sure you get your parcel, honestly it could not be better.

However Parcel Force.. *shivers* 9/10 I end up having to do the 50 mile round trip to their parcel juggling center in Edinburgh.

This is spot on for Royal Mail warehouse sorting office, I used to work the night shift and the postal bags (the ones that hold all the letters and parcels) were quite literally thrown into the sorting cages.... I'm talking 15-20ft away.

What about couriers who deliver an empty box with the bottom side slit and re-sealed?

My old workplace would send laptops to Acer for repair, and once every few months, one of the depot monkeys would slit open the box underneath, retrieved a repaired laptop, re-seal, and all we got was the empty box with address label still intact (because they slit under side). Then cue disgruntled customer who have lost data on their laptop (although they never listened to us when we tell them to backup their data), and we have to foot the bill for a replacement laptop. Acer eventually recognised that this was a recurring issue with the courier, so they changed couriers and even the new courier did it. I think the reason why they get away with it is because depot staff are only temps, and by the time the complaints procedure have caught up with the thefts, the gibbons have already moved onto pastures new.

We have a Chinger deliver our stuff, top bloke .. for some reason he apologised for knocking my door twice the other day... im slow on the uptake to answer the front door these days in case there is a zombie there.

I worked at a sorting place as an Xmas temp last year doing the 2nd class parcels. Things definitely get thrown about a lot, to be fair with the amount of volume received that's only the really way of getting it all done in a timely manner. Either that or triple the work force and increase prices but then the sorting areas probably aren't even big enough for that!

Not had any problems with DPD breaking items I've ordered, though it seems they've either changed which is the main depot near me or the Leeds one has closed down.

All OCUK orders used to go to the Leeds depot and get delivered before 12, now they go to one in Sheffield and turn up at 4.30-5.30 :(

I watched out of my window as 2 nights in a row a delivery driver turned up at a neighbours address in a really bad mood and threw all of the parcels all over the van while he was looking for the one he wanted. The first one picked up the wrong one, so on returning to the van he threw them about again, several of them falling out of the side door into the street. He then walked off to deliver it leaving the side door open and a couple of parcels in the street. He returned, chucked everything back in, slammed the door and drove off in a huff. The next night was the same except he got the right parcel the first time but still threw everything about looking for it. This was two different drivers, so it wasn't just a random knobrot.
I was pretty shocked but having watched Secrets of your Paypacket last night I sort of understand. Long hours and crap money=bad attitude.

Use to work for City Link shipping out new phones for Orange. All phones had to be out no matter what at the end of the day. Most days it was fine with a steady stream that was easy to keep up with and everything went orderly with boxes stacked neatly in the cages.

Then you had one of those nights where it was madness and pallets of boxes coming down faster than they could be shifted. This meant little effort was made to stack them and they were just thrown into the cages. All that mattered was that they were ready to be loaded by 11PM when the lorry came. If not then we weren't allowed to leave until it was done.

False.

We have a first hand witness account from a forum member who has seen staff throwing boxes in the warehouse "for fun". There is no excuse for this. Simply saying get over it is not acceptable at all.

When stuff like this goes public, that's when something gets done about it.
