Dr. Disrespect permanently banned from Twitch

Goes to show what you know. Twitch isn't full of attention seekers and smut. There's a lot of educational streams, sports streams, tech channels. In your view because of a few bad apples the whole thing should be shutdown?

You only ever hear of the bad. There are programmers, designers, 3d Modellers that teach and show their techniques and skills on twitch. As well as concept artists.
Lol no way,

Those sort of people use YouTube for that

Most stuff on Youtube isn't live. Programmers/artists etc etc like to interact with the streamer as they're teaching. The interaction goes back and forth learning new techniques.
There's plenty of live stuff. I've watched many live streams on YouTube from teachers like in photography for example.

Many famous photographers use YouTube.

This is the first time I've heard twitch being used outside streaming games

Nice. I'll start checking out twitch

Its still very early days for the non-gaming stuff, like you mention Youtube is used by a lot of people for such things and up til recently Twitch has been seen as a gaming platform more than anything, but more and more people are turning away from youtube because of certain policies that youtube has being detrimental for the streamer. Some of those people are starting to find out the things that Twitch can offer them. Early days but the platform is expanding beyond just gamers and seminaked dancing girls :)

I know enough to form my own opinion. the few "bad apples" you refer to are the some of the top streamers who use twitch as a platform.

how many streamers in recent years have been accused of crimes and shutdown because of other streamers with no proof. or committed suicide or have been swatted.

twitch is the platform that enables people to behave like this.

Not every swatting incident has involved Twitch, but every swatting incident has involved a phone call. So what you're saying is we should ban telephones.

When you attack the medium because you don't like some of the message, you're treading on very shaky ground.

It would be far more useful if you listed some specific Twitch Streamers.

Chess has gone way downhill since XQC got involved. Cooking is usually dominated by the bigger streamers cooking very basic food. Science and Tech is usually good when there's a big event going on. Talk Shows and Podcasts are also dominated by TrainwrecksTV, Rajj, Destiny and other toxic drama streamers.

Arts and Crafts are the exception, that's generally good.

My point is, all but 2 of those categories are full of large and usually toxic streamers, the good streams in those categories will be hard to find unless you can recommend some good ones.

Stopped reading at this point.

Some of the best chess players in the world appear to be streaming on Twitch now and they're pulling massive numbers since the lock down started. If one streamer puts you off an entire category, that's your problem tbh.

Probably would, but just quickly knocked that list up before I started work, unfortunately didnt have time to go get individual channels so had to assume that people would do that bit themselves

They have for some time, not just recently. That section blew up for the reason mentioned above. Twitch metrics will confirm it.

How does it go downhill if someone streams it? It's been around for 1000 years. Doesn't Magnus Carlsen stream on Twitch/you tube? I don't get all this Twitch hate, it's just a streaming service. Streaming isn't going anywhere and Twitch is the biggest player so if there's a problem with Twitch then it's more a problem with society since all it is is a live stream with chat. Twitch devs aren't saying please go troll everyone.

I'm guessing you aren't familiar with Twitch culture.

When someone like XQC gets involved, and others similar to him it becomes less about Chess and more about everything else. It's not just the streamer but their communities that actively follow them.

Twitch being a a great source and alternative to YouTube because you can interact live, doesn't come close with regards to the quality and ease of access to quality content, their very niche and difficult to find. Most of the Chess GM's on Twitch (and many more) upload the most interesting content to their YouTube pages.

edit: I don't hate Twitch, I have it in the background most of the time I'm not working. I don't agree with some of the stuff said on the last page that's all :)

maybe we could ban the police and spend more money on education.

didn't realise we had SWAT either

can he actually play chess? I kind of like the guy but don't watch him, but he seems a bit low IQ.

like that time he bought a new pc to build but forgot to buy a PSU......

most of these streamers are the type of nerds would have had a really tough time when I was at school in the 90s and would have been bullied daily.

kinda weird how times change

Times do indeed change, back in my school days, virtually every single person on this forum would have been bullied, mind you, at my school simply wearing glasses was enough to get a punch in the face and regularly being called a speccy **** and nerd. Thankfully being into geeky stuff isnt seen in the same light today at it was back then.

There are several people on these forums who work in game development professionally who probably know a lot more than he does.

While I haven't worked professionally in that field since early 2000s I'm a capable games programmer (see my recent Quake 2 RTX mod for instance https://steamcommunity.com/app/1089130/discussions/0/2262438048216083234/ ) and have more than 20 years level design experience as well as having over 20 years of gaming experience. While game balance isn't something I've focussed on I highly doubt he has a hell of a lot more insight than I do.

Actually he does because he plays the game at a high level.

Hugh level players know how the engine works as they use it to its maximum to exploit it to be good at the game.

Therefore they know which weapons, abilities, power ups and what not are weak and which are too powerful.

Shroud for example always goes against the meta because using the meta is too easy for him.

He uses a scout sometimes even a Mozambique in apex.

He will on purpose use crap weapons as a challenge because using the most powerful is too easy.

In fact I used to play destiny with 2 guys who would think about what weapons would be a challenge for them to use in trials using the meta was too easy for them.

High level players know the engine and weapon balancing better than the developers who made it. Because they are leagues above them in game sense and skill.

I'd like to see a developer bunny hop, destroy people with the worst weapons in the game, etc.

The best people to balance a game is professional players. In csgo the whole pro community wanted the krieg nerfed and now its been nerfed into oblivion. Its completely unusable now.

The problem is when a game developer only listens to its most popular streamers and you tubers and not every one of them for feedback.

That's where csgo got it right.

Games like destiny they listened to a handful of people then they decided that wasn't working so they would do it themselves and messed it up by completely nerfing the weapons that were skill based like snipers.

Now Dr D isn't a pro player however he is a high level player and will have a greater insight into game balance than basically all the people on here who have never played at a high level.

There brains are geared up with the game and engine. I play with a very high level player on Cs and I'm pretty high level myself at LEM but he is leagues ahead of me and has youth on his side. I watch how he clears a site in clutch situations and he knows exactly where the guy is without even seeing him. So after the round is over I ask how did you know he was there and he explained in great detail how he had checked x, y and z angle however at the same time his team mate had checked a and b therefore he could only have been 1 of 2 places and he didn't think he had enough time of the balls to be in the second place so he held point 1.

Me I would have checked some angles and then ran about trying to find him. It's that level of player who knows not only the map, what he has cleared but also what his team mate has cleared by checking radar and looking at there position on the map and screen and where the other person could be. They know exactly how much time the person has to get into position, exactly how much time it gets from a to b, its all natural to them they don't need to think about it they just know.

That is what seperates a high level player from the rest. They know that since you were here and 5 seconds have passed you can only be here or there and they clear those angles.

Whereas a noob like you would just run around and hope they run into them.

High level players are absolutely the best people to balance a game. However they can be biased so you need to talk to a large number of them and get all their feedback and assess it.

The best source of information for balancing a game, comes from the game itself, and the only people that have access to that data, are the developers.

Obviously every developer is aware of what popular streamers on their titles are doing and take that into account, but their opinion is just one data point among many.

they decided that wasn't working so they would do it themselves and messed it up by completely nerfing the weapons that were skill based like snipers.

Snipers...skillbased? They dont even use the AWSD keys. One of my mates plays sniper - but he only has one hand so it suits him. Too many, overpowered sniper weapons in a game has ruined many a MP shooter. HEnce why when game servers were run by clans, there were many a NO SNIPER server available to rid the back of map, out of range, n00b cannons.

Skill? Er no CAMPING is not a skill :D
