Dragon Age: The Veilguard

@JonRGV250 you have contributed 6% of the entire thread's posting content and haven't even played the game. You read some reviews and they hurt your feelings and it's all terribly sad, in every way.

At least @Neil79, twitter warrior and twitter worrier, managed an hour which, although also hilarious in itself because it generated so much ... just word vomit ... it's somehow less bad than no effort gamers making pro-tier complaints because ~their sensibilities were hurty wurty~

A joke, the pair of you.

Again, why would I pay for and play a game that’s been universally trashed and has failed financially? Why?
You’re really not very good at this virtue signaling lark, try more harder.
We believe in you, keep trying champ.

^ That is what most decent review sites said! The dialogue is all over the place, the characterisation varies from great to appalling but the core gameplay loop is still pretty good. Very few people said it was great, even in this thread!

It's a solid, sometimes cringy, sometimes really fun, action RPG. It is good not great. It is not objectively awful just because you spend too much time on twitter and reddit engaging in pointless culture war garbage. And if that is your thing, maybe do more of that and less gaming - know your strengths.

I thought it'd be interesting to see who is contributing (lmfao) to this thread so here we go. Neil, you need to have a lie down fella, this can't be good for you. I know the anti-woke culture wars are very real for you but come on.

And you've won the Rainbow medal for wasting time on counting other people's posts. Go lay down !

I ended up blocking her in another thread about Netflix. Doesn't add anything to the thread good or bad, just latches on to specific people in the thread even when it doesn't even involve them

A new report now suggests that some BioWare staff "loaned" to other EA studios will not be returning.

Earlier this week, amid reports of potential layoffs at BioWare, studio general manager Gary McKay has confirmed "many" employees have now been moved elsewhere in EA following the completion of Dragon Age: The Veilguard - and that a remaining core team is fully focused on Mass Effect 5.

Doesn't matter how you did it, the irony seems to be lost on you that you've added even less value to the thread than the person/s you're criticising.

My value* is in pointing out that several posters in this thread - many of whom are loud and vocal, like me (see? self reflection isn't that bad) - are 'adding value' having not played the thing they're commenting on. It's really, really tiresome.

Then again, so am I as I'm going over old ground but for the same reasons.

'Her', LMFAO.

EA CEO Claims Dragon Age: The Veilguard Failed Due To Lack Of Live Service Elements

EA in full damage control..

while Dragon Age: The Veilguard launched successfully and received strong reviews from both critics and players, it struggled to attract a broader player base in an increasingly competitive market.

Most of the Critics were paid reviews, such as Mort and IGN. It got generally trashed by the majority of players.

Yeah, of course it did

The majority bar one, and she’ll be along in a minute to tell everyone how wrong they are, and what a wonderful, awe inspiring and jaw dropping piece of gaming excellence it is.

Regarding Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s inability to reach a wider audience, Wilson said that games must align with the changing expectations of players who prioritize “shared-world features” and “deeper engagement” alongside compelling narratives.

Yeah, about those “narratives”.
They may have been compelling to 1% of players, but quite obviously not compelling to the other 99%.

I don't think anyone either positive or negative mentioned " live service elements ":cry:

DA:V was originally supposed to be a live service orientated online game, EA/Bioware switched production part way through to a single player title. There have been discussions in various places that the shift of focus caused a lot of problems, I'm assuming that one of the out of touch executives viewed the poor sales as a result of it not being "live service" (without having read the earlier linked article) rather than it just not being a particularly appealing game.

I'd imagine it could have been more 'successful' if it were a live service game with the ability to purchase **** from the get go. All the whales that would have bought the game because it was a DA game would more than likely have proceeded to spaff money into it before getting into the game itself or very quickly. They'd probably have made more money and as such been 'successful' from EAs perspective.
Doesn't mean it'd be a better game or have higher player numbers because of it. Though if they hadn't pivoted to a single player game part way for development it might have fared better. Though the same could be true if it had been a single player game from the beginning.

Are they really this clueless or is this just some spin?

Surely one of the reasons so many 'AAA' games have had issues in recent years is due to 'live service' elements being jammed in everywhere?
