1080p/60fps PC trailer(watch fullscreen):

"Pffft, will probably be terrible port, why should I pre-order?"

Well pre-ordering isn't going to get you anything grand, no. You get a 300+ page digital art book plus the 53 track soundtrack in either MP3 of FLAC formats. That will probably appeal to quite a few people, though.

As for people worried about how it'll turn out, let's just say this is on-track to be a very high quality port. We've gotten lots of gameplay video of it running at a completely butter smooth 60fps. The game also gets rid of the black bars of the console version and supports up to 4k resolutions. It's looking like the game is very undemanding and will probably be able to run at higher resolutions and 60fps quite easily. It also supports framerates above 60fps, too!

I think this one deserves some hype and I'll be pre-ordering simply because I'm excited for it and want to show Capcom and the developer the support they deserve for getting this done and not just making it some low effort port.

Anyways, here's a great comparison vid of the PC version vs the PS3 version. On a personal note, I tried playing the PS3 version a while back and got about an hour in before having to quit due to the performance issues. They were really *that* bad and for a game so reliant on action combat, it was just absolutely unplayable. 60fps+ will be a godsend.

I really enjoyed DD. I probably have 150+ hours on console (did about 80 on 360, then bought dark arisen on ps4 and have 70 on that). Will probably end up picking this up, despite having played the literal crap out of it :D

Is this much the same in terms of mechanics / game play compared to the Dark Souls series?
Not quite. Combat in Souls games is slower paced and more methodical. This gets much closer to action-game style combat, but also with awesome ranged weaponry and totally insane magic casting.

It does share the intention of creating a really satisfying and fun combat system in an RPG in common with Souls games, though. They just do it a bit differently.

Sort of yes, it's class based and so ability based for attacks and your class can advance and gain new abilities. You move about the world like it's a Souls game but it's open world like an Elder Scrolls game. And it has giant monsters so there is climbing too. Think Shadows of The Colossus.

It's a collage of different game elements, described by someone over at GameFAQs as "devil may skyrim of the colossus"

Sorry to be nitpicky, but Souls games aren't class-based at all. One of the main features of them is that you basically create whatever type of character you want.

And advancing and gaining new abilities - for one, if you're doing a more melee-style play in a Souls game, you actually dont gain many new abilities at all. Different weapons might have different movesets, but it's really only magic users who get new 'abilities'.

This is actually one of the distinctions between the games from what I can tell.

You move about the world like it's a Souls game
I dont really know what that means. It's a 3rd person game and you move around. That's about where the similarity ends, though.

I'm sorry to be contrarian, but I want to provide an accurate picture to the person asking so they understand what they're getting into. Your comments makes it sound much more like Souls than it is.

Despite loving the look of this I never got around to buying it for my PS3, So onto my Steam wishlist it goes. Will most likely get it for my birthday next month.

mmm, Souls does start class based, you choose a class and it manipulates your stats towards that class. But yes I know what you mean and I worded it poorly. What I was thinking as I was typing was "Sort of.. but it's class based"

I think you have got confused, I was talking about Dragon's Dogma by this point where you do in fact gain new abilities depending on your class and level in that class and can advance your class

So it's exactly as I described then, and since his reference point is Dark Souls he shouldn't have any confusion.

The only link I gave to, a Souls game is the way you move about the game. It's not an FPS, it's not a point and click, it's not menu driven, it's like a Souls game.

Tempted to pre-order just for the soundtrack.

Edit: Just pre ordered from gmg using this voucher - 23PERC-WTHGMG-ADVENT and got it for £18.48

Great combat system and online functionality in fact great game. But my days sitting in front of a monitor with RPGs are gone, so I hope it comes out on the xbox one.

Fair enough man, wasn't trying to pick an argument necessarily! Just didn't want to give the wrong impression.

There's a great FAQ up on Steam:

http://steamcommunity.com/app/367500/discussions/0/487877107137271918/

Some noteworthy bits:

- You can turn pawn chatter off, which was apparently an annoyance on the console versions.

- 4k is not the ceiling resolution. You can go higher if you can run it.

- Bad news for recent 165hz monitor owners! Game is capped at 150fps. Sorry, you'll just have to make do with 144fps.

- Game should work with all major controllers out of the box(X360, XB1, DS4, Steam, etc).

- They will not stop modders, but they aren't going out of their way to support them, either.

- Game still only has one save slot.

Really? I'd never heard this complaint when it was released on PS3. There was a big ps3 thread on it. Rather bizarre.... most folk had no problems with it or if there was low fps at times it certainly didnt impact the game enough to make it unplayable....

In comparison i remember some areas of dark souls being an utter mare to play on the ps3 because of seriously low fps but never enough that people quit the game

Good game on ps3 but looking at that video i'm not impressed at all with the graphics to be honest. Graphics for ps3 version were great just expect a bit more for PC version. Struggling to see real improvements tbh

Great combat and magic system. Very free flowing...i guess its a little bit like SOM combat except not as good. It is nothing like dark souls combat :)

I always wanted to play this but as in op the tech issues were horrid on ps3, terrible!

I remember starting a thread here about retrying dark souls or starting dragons dogma, i went with dark souls and that has become my favourite franchise ever!

But i still want to try this!

Some of the lighting effects are the same as Dark Souls (the lantern makes me think Dark Souls for some reason), and you can use swords to kill monsters - that's about where the Dark Souls similarities end tbh.
If you go in expecting dark souls, you will be very disappointed. It's a more arcadey style of combat, significantly quicker and less clunky than souls games. And there's actually a story, and people :P

Yea i know they arent that similar, just at the time i jad time for one or the other :)

I remember the controls being a bit weird too, and pawn subtitles everywhere though i think that can be turned off?
