Dreamcast

Anyone played Metropolis Street Racer?

I always used to beat my brother on multiplayer tournaments. He won once, and got sooo happy lol.

It was the first game I ever played that had real roads in it.

MSR, a terrible soundtrack!
A brilliant game at the time though, one of the best the DC had to offer. I got pretty far on and then just hit a wall I seem to remember, sad times.

Metropolis Street Racer at the time was just one of the best looking racing games I seen and very realistic in terms of detail to the tracks and the cities that were featured. London was extremely recognisable! But I do agree with the soundtrack being terrible though. Richard Jacques could have done so much better. Hell his work in Sonic R was better than this.

Nowadays though, this game is just too dark, so dark that you can have trouble seeing the corners and end up crashing into the barriers and there is also way too many jaggles.

Still, without this game, the Xbox/Xbox 360 would probably never have had Project Gotham Racing.

Well i've gone and got a VGA cable for £25 off eBay so should be with me in the next couple of days!

Next pay day i'm going to get Power Stone, Shenmue 1, Sonic Adventure 2, Crazy Taxi and a hell of a lot more!

I'm not going to play the DC in till i get the VGA cable as i want to make the most of the games :D

Just made a list of all the games that i'll be getting for the DC:

Shenmue 1
Fur Fighters
Crazy Taxi 1/2
Sonic Adventure 2
Buzz Lightyear
Toy Story 2
Soldier of Fortune
Army Men - Sarges Heroes
Star Wars: Demolition
Wild Metal
Star Wars: Jedi Power Battles
Power Stone 1/2
Headhunter
Fighting Force 2
Outtrigger
Sword of the Beserk
Vigilante 8: 2nd offense
Starlancer

Have i missed anything?

Thanks.

One game Daytona USA, is it best to get this game on the Saturn or Dreamcast? I really want this game soooooo bad. :)
Go for the Dreamcast version as the Saturn one is too complicated with it's many different revisions. It is also released on the PC but like the Saturn versions, it is old.

Only problem with the Dreamcast version is the REALLY twitchy controls and INSANELY fast speed, but other than that, I would say it is the best one to get. Has all the original music plus remixed versions (Blue Blue Skies!!!!). Just the shame our crappy PAL version removed the online play from the game.

Yeah I was looking and saw how many versions of the Saturn game there was. No wonder the console died.

It had great potential, but just a shame that it was difficult to develop for. "Original" Shenmue would have shown what it was fully capable off. Still, it had some of the best 2D games and was able to run certain those and other titles much better than the PlayStation versions.

PS2 hype is one of the main reasons most would say caused the downfall of the Dreamcast. Then there was Sega's previous failures like with the Saturn, so it didn't help with their overall business image.

The Dreamcast had so many great games, and really was ahead of it's time with some innovations, but it was just a shame not a lot of people took notice of it, consumers and developers alike.

Another reason I would say is the incompetence of Sega's U.S and Europe branches with their lack of decent marketing and cancelling some games that could have been great if they got the go ahead.

EA was the biggest factor by a wide margin, they absolutely refused to develop for it, and told other developers they would not be publishing their games for the system.

This is a known fault with the DC where the PSU needs re seating on the motherboard. I took mine apart and rebuilt it all now it runs perfectly. There are some guides out there on the net.

I've often looked at VGA boxes/cables for my DC but never stumped up for one, I need to as my scart cable is pants.

Thanks for this. Might have to have a peek inside. :)

Yeah a FIFA football game of some sorts would have helped pushed up some sales but even so, I thought Visual Concepts and their NFL2K, NBA2K, NHL2K sports games were much superior at the time compared to EA Sports usual standards.

I remember the famous quote from EA themselves for their reasons of not supporting the Dreamcast, "A minute spent on the Dreamcast is a minute wasted for other platforms" or something similar to that.

To hell with EA anyways!

Agreed. The handling was a let down on the dreamcast for Daytona 2001. Very sharp, a little to sharp :( Other than that the visuals look great.

Sonic Adventure had me hooked for ages when I got my DC. One fantastic game.

For anyone who does buy a DC, make sure yo get the Scart Cable to replace the AV cable. The quality is so much sharper and clearer.
