Dredd trailer

It's a bit sad to see that it's not doing better, as it was pretty much what a Dredd film should be really, I thoroughly enjoyed it, but I think the lowish budget (for a modern action film) did hurt it a bit, and I suspect the Americans probably didn't get it.

My biggest complaint with it was that in places it wasn't futuristic enough compared to the comics (although I suspect that was partly down to budgetary concerns), and Dredd wasn't well known enough compared to the comics, but that could have been because it was set quite early in his career.

Regardless, it's one of the few films I'll be pre-ordering the blu-ray for :p (I tend to wait for most films to reach a tenner or less before buying the blu-ray.

I think it's just been released at the wrong time of the year. Autumn is always slow because it's after the summer rush and the big Christmas releases. That, and the fact it was an 18, means it was always gonna be a long shot to make its money back.

But the DVD/blu-ray sales could still see it do well, even if it is a long shot.

It's early Mega-City, hence why it's not yet a hive and just separated Blocks.

It's nigh on perfect in it's execution considering the budget, but you'll never get a 200million budget 18 Rated film, so it'll be difficult to pull off any real large scale Mega City action film.

Personally I liked that it wasn't over-scaled, felt a much tighter film and plot because of this.

Interesting to see the Director's ideas for sequels. maybe if they can drop it to a 15 they'd find the budget.

I took a lady friend with me to see it, having said she didn't like the look of it prior to going in (Her favourite film's are Titanic and the likes) she came away thinking it was brilliant.

Can we go back to the ending please? It strikes me that:

if you were going to rig a device to yourself that would trigger an explosion if you died, surely you would have it so that it would constantly transmit as long as you're alive, and stop transmitting when your heart stopped.

So that if, for any reason, the signal stopped, like you're moved out of range or the device is broken, the explosion would still happen. Your enemy doesn't dare kill you or take any other hostile action.

You would definitely not have it so that it only transmitted a signal when it detected that you'd died. Because if the device fails, is broken, or you move out of range... it won't work. And all your enemy has to do is remove it, break it, or move you out of range.

But this is the way the device seems to work in the movie! Once Ma-Ma is out of range, nothing happens.

But, the way Ma-Ma explains it to Dredd, it sure sounds like the first option, the 'dead man's handle' device. But, he throws her over the balcony anyway!

I just have to reconcile this by imagining that Scared Tech Guy invented the device, and did it that way out of revenge on Ma-Ma; Anderson read this in his mind, and off-screen somehow conveyed this to Dredd, so he knew before confronting Ma-Ma.

Otherwise..... it would mean Dredd has more of a death wish than Ma-Ma! (But when we first see Anderson, she does detect 'something' in Dredd that the Chief Judge is quick to shut her up about. Or is this simply reading too much into things..?)

Worth picking up the 3d disk at that price, cost me a tenner to see it at the flicks. Not realy interested in rewatching the film myself, but id shoot for the 3d if you have the means, just about half the film is built up for it with that slow-mo stuff they did.

Just you wish they had decent money behind it, maybe it'll get booted again in another 15 years, cgi will only get better and cheaper:)

Although a sequel is extremely unlikely, it seems to be doing very well on blu-ray/DVD. Its currently sitting at No.1 in the bestseller lists of a few well known blu-ray retailers in the US where it was released this week.

Its out next week in the UK, and looks to be having some pretty solid pre-orders over here as well.

I've pre-ordered this. Loved it at the cinema and looking forward to seeing it again. The audio was one of the (many) highlights for me and with a review suggesting the film has a lossless DTS-HD MA 7.1 that is "astounding" excites me. My new amp will get a good workout :D

Watched it 3 times now and love it. Not the best film from last year but definietely my favorite, get's it all right.

It's a shame The Raid ripped off the idea after the script leak so the obvious comparisons get made.

I really enjoyed it in the cinema and though Urban did a fantastic job considering you could only see 1/2 his face (much better than Hardy/Bane IMHO). The lack of budget was the only real killer and it showed with the little things i.e poor bike, always in a corridor, few Megacity shots (although effective when shown) etc. I think some else mentioned they wished it had Total Recall's VFX and budget, imagine how awesome that'd have been!

As a massive fan of Tony Jaa movies I thought the Raid was massively over-hyped. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed the martial arts but it was nothing new or special in that area. I think it was lucky in that it hit the mainstream just at the right time maybe?

Same here I didnt like the Raid at all either I bought it on Bluray then sold it the next day.

Dredd however was awesome, shame it wont get a sequel but it probably wouldnt have worked anyway.
