drink driving limits

How about not drinking at all if you're thinking of driving?! How hard is that to do? I know you don't want a "lecture" on not drinking and driving - but it's the simplest and safest thing to do. Yes the body tends to have a trace amount of alcohol - but if they do bring the limit onto 0 they'd be able to tell the difference between trace amounts and over that.

Why risk being less efficient and less able behind the wheel for the sake of a drink? Do you REALLY need a drink that much? If I was your friends drinking with you I wouldn't let you drive.

Yes everyone's different, but why take the chance? Frankly I think it's very irresponsible to actively drink when you know you're going to drive.

THE DRINK DRIVE LIMIT IS NOT A UNIVERSAL NUMBER

ITS DIFFERENT FOR EVEYONE

EASIEST WAY, DONT DRINK AT ALL!

Seriously, I cannot belive people think this way! It angers me to see people thinking they can define the drink drive limit, and saddens me that they end up killing someone before they realise!

I 100% agree, even if your under the limit it doesn't mean your safe to drive, even drinking 1 pint can effect your driving so why risk it, you may be under the limit but you still have a higher percentage chance to having/causing an accident than if you didn't drink, all for the sake of having a pint instead on an OJ or Coke.

The thing is, the first pint MUST affect you otherwise you could drink an infinite amount and not get drunk.

Not feeling the first pint =/= hard

It probably affects me in a way that isn't noticable, I don't feel the first pint, i don't think I ever have, i feel no different to if i'd had a pint of coke.

The idea of having said pint is that said pint is tasty and refreshing, more so than a non alcoholic drink.

Not worth it....I was daft enough to drive after a drink, had some ***** on a motorbike on the wrong side of the road on a blind bend...I swerved to avoid and crashed into a hedge next to some houses. Police came, I pursuaded myself I would be fine...nope breath test came back possitive. Test back at station said I was twice the limit!!! :(

I lost my License for 20 month and got a £300 fine just for having 2 pints with a meal. Taxi would have cost me £30. Now I got high insurance premiums as well.

24 - 6 yrs driving experiance - 2yr no-claims - Vectra 2.0 dti 52 reg - £100+ a month full comp!!!!!

£40 a month if I hadn't got the DR10 :(

I dont touch anything alcoholic any more if I'm driving or know I'm about to drive.

NOT WORTH IT!!

If you are wondering how many units you are drinking this is how to calculate it.

Volume/1000ml * ABV %.

So in the case above 258ml/1000ml * 3.8% = 0.9804 units.

Pint of Stella (5% or what ever the poo is)

568ml/1000ml*5% = 2.84 units.

dropping the limit to zero is not possible is it?

As your body taken alchol from sources other than drinks. So don't think this can be done

But the body can produce alcohol naturally.

I see this mentioned time and time again, yes it does, but not to the degree that the machines will pick up on it (they could be calibrated to ignore a certain amount, I don't know).

As I said before when this point was raised, I was breathalysed about 3 weeks after I'd had a drink, at the scene of a car accident, the screen read in big letters 'ZERO'.

As for the site mentioned where you can buy them, the police ones aren't on there, the closest match are the ones that cost about £700.

And as for the OP. If you need to have the machine to tell you if you are 'safe' or not means you shouldn't be drinking.

When I got my license I used to have a drink every few weeks and drive, I realised it was a stupid thing to do, so stopped and haven't done it since. It's not worth your license, your life, or most importantly, someone else's life.

11 years ago, I went out clubbing for the first time and I drove (I was a late starter) so I confined myself to Cola for the whole night. 7 Pints of Cola later and I was absoloutely buzzing - we left the club at 2am and I got pulled over on a dual carriageway by a traffic cop. He breathalysed me as he said my driving was a little erratic and he'd followed me out of the night club car park. Obviously I passed the breath test and he then proceeded to question me about any drugs I'd taken etc. We eventually got onto the 7 pints of Cola and he went "ahh, I see". "Right, I suggest you do 20 press ups and drive very carefully on the way home - you've got a major sugar drop which is quite common". Apparently the press ups were to get my metabolism kick started again - although I never did do them - getting pulled over did the trick nicely!

So let that be a lesson to you - go easy on the soft drinks as well chaps!

I agree with everyone else though - if you're driving - don't drink ANY alchohol! Never understood someone saying "I really need a beer/drink/glass of wine". Surely that's alchoholism?

And what has that got to do with why drink driving "isn't that bad"?

If by inconvenience you mean getting pulled over a few times for driving erratically, then stop driving erratically.
Okay, let me clarify:

Driving under considerable influence of alcohol is bad.

Driving under slight influence (say 1 drink for the average person) of alcohol is no worse than driving with a bad cold.. or while tired, yet these are significantly less frowned upon than the alcohol. A normally alert person after 1 drink is going to be in better control than someone who day dreams a lot after no drink.
Why am I not surprised by your attitude given your track record.
I'm not surprised you can't think of anything else to say.

Yes, but you can't really stop yourself getting a cold can you? You can however make sure you don't drink any alchohol when you're about to drive.

It's all about reducing the risks to acceptable levels.

Besides, if you're driving erratically due to having a serious cold or day dreaming, then you can still get pulled over and done for dangerous driving/without due care and attention etc so your argument isn;t valid anyway.

I suppose it is really to a mild extent ,its just a bad habit I've got into ,always have a pint every evening and yes I do feel that I need one .

I guess if it becomes a regular habit the body feels it needs its hit the same as coffee /chocolate /smoking etc.

I think smoking should not be allowed at the wheel either .

If i ever have a drink when I am driving I will only have a pint of something 4% or less and thats it.

But to be honest no matter what you have to drink you are still risking it.

If you have a half of something and then knock someone down you will still be held responsible due to you having alcohol in the system.
