Drink driving

as in a ***** insurance company or insurance for ****** ? :p

***** insurance company as *****'s only drive M3's with wires hanging from the ignition barrel.

The low premiums reflect the cover restrictions such as no AD cover for drink driving. That will save insurers a lot of money and help keep premiums down which is nice at first but when you're on the receiving end of it - proper ouch when you've gone slightly over the alcohol limit and binned your £20k car & the Police happen to roll by.

So more than likely a 3 year ban with whatever the magistrate see's fit to add on top for endangering her sons life?

Probably. Dangerous or careless driving could be added since she crashed the car and endangered her son's life.

There has been a big clampdown on drink driving in NI in recent years. My dad's next door neighbour was caught just a fraction over the limit after driving to work the morning after a few drinks. He felt perfectly fine and was certain that he was fine to drive. He got a 2 year ban, massive fine and had to go on some sort of course.

I dred to think what your sister has coming to her. Hopefully they'll arrange some form of rehab to get her back on track.

Looks like she'll get a 2 year ban and a maximum fine of upto £5000 or 6 months in prison. The offence will stay on here licence for 11 years. She will have the option to attend a weekly course lasting about 6-8 weeks to learn about the affects of DD and if she completes this course, she will get a reduction of upto 6 months taken off her ban. The course costs about £200.

Pretty much exactly what I was about to post, generally comunity service is only for 4x limit and above

You can't really apply that logic in this case given the circumstances. I believe the sentencing guidelines in NI differ from Britain anyway.

Cuchulain, at least no one was hurt by the sounds of it.

From what i understand 3x over the limit is likely to be on the very high end of DD penalties, and is approaching the zone where the DVLA will probably want a medical report before allowing her to get her licence back (as I understand it, at a certain point they class you as being possibly alcoholic, and that comes in at a certain level over the limit or if you a DD twice in about 10 years).

Re the insurance, some companies I think do have a clause that they won't pay for your damages if you are drink/drug driving at the time of the accident - as someone already said it no doubt helps keep the premiums down as they aren't paying out as much for the drivers blatant stupidity.

IIRC the sentencing guidelines are actually available online if anyone is interested.
