Drink driving

Doesn't the fine completely depend on income?

depends on how big the fine is, they wont slam a 5000 one on her if there's no way she can pay, prob get a 1k fine/ 2-3years ban /community service for dangerous driving/ attend course's and have to retake her theory and have to do a test again, but 90 minutes instead of 45

She deserves everything she gets.
It's bad enough drink driving, putting peoples lives in danger.
But to drink drive with your KID in the back THREE TIMES over the limit.

That takes the white chocolate hobnob.
Lifetime ban from driving at least, 6 months in jail maybe. Thats quite frankly disgusting behaviour.

drink driving with kids in the car is stupid and pretty unthinkable for most people.

Drink driving on its own is stupid and unthinkable. Drink driving with a kid in the car is completely beyond comprehension. Although if she was three times the limit, she was probably not in a fit state to comprehend her actions.

I just hope she learns from it. I've always thought that the best thing for a young driver to happen is for them to be in a minor accident in which no-one gets hurt so they realise just how dangerous driving is. Over a ton of metal moving at high speed is a killing machine - young people do not realise this until they are personally involved in an accident.

Not sticking up for her here, but 3 times over the limit is not a massive amount, 3 times over the limit could potentially be 3/4 pints of lager, not exactly enough to make you blind drunk enough to not comprehend the risks.

For a man maybe, but remember, women (on average) having smaller frames feel the effects of alcohol quicker, and are affected more than a man drinking a similar quantity.

Mmm...was just trying to get my head round how you could do what she did. But you're right - three times the limit is drunk enough to know you're over the limit (compared with after 1 pint, you might be, you might not) but not enough to be blind drunk and not aware of what you're doing.

Found out more today, apparently she was 5 times over the limit and hit a house, not another car. She suffers from chronic depression and alcoholism and while that doesn't excuse her actions in any way whatsoever it does go some way to explaining how it ocurred. The one positive outcome is that she realises now that she needs help, just a shame it didn't happen before.

Maybe it's all for the best then, hopefully now she'll have no choice but to get some good help and in the long run she'll be better off for this incident. Maybe it'll be the shock to the system she obviously needs.

Far from sticking up for her what you've said actually makes what she did sound even worse. If she was extremely wasted then perhaps she wasn't capable of thinking rationally and wasn't aware of the danger. However if she wasn't that drunk she would have been very aware of what she was doing and would have known that she couldn't possibly have been legal to drive.

Erm........ that's incredibly unlikely....

A lot of people doubt the website I use - www.rupissed.com but having compared the results it gives to the results you get from an actual breathalyser like Alcosense the site seems to be surprisingly spot on.

People in the UK seem to have a misguided belief that a couple of pints is over the limit due to all the crazy advertising campaigngs. You have to remember that the body will process alcohol at one unit per hour. Working on a 75kg male, 175cm height, 3 pints of Becks (5%), enter pub at 8pm and have first pint, leave pub at 11pm then you will be teetering on the limit.

With regards to the OP, even if she was a light woman, say 60kgs, to be 3 times the limit she would need to have consumed roughly 3 bottles of wine or a whole bottle of spirits.

EDIT > This is a more respected site which backs up what I am saying here - http://www.webmd.com/mental-health/alcohol-abuse/blood-alcohol?page=2
