Bear in mind this girl has just turned 20 and is at University.

I don't understand why her friends let her do it, and are not even feeling sorry for her!

I've never drunk driven on a night out, although at times the next morning on the way to work I've felt pretty groggy, hard to tell though how much of this is lack of sleep.

Anybody ever been caught, had friends/family caught?

My Grandad was caught after doing it for 25 years without a single incident, until someone eventually snitched on him.

Not something I'm proud of, but I may have done it a couple of times - nothing stupidly excessive, but I was once breathalysed after 4 pints following pulling out a bit close to what turned out to be a police car, and came up at only 10mg.

So now we have drink driving to add to your seemingly endless list of talents mike?

Lovely.

Never an excuse for it. It is just pathetic.

One of my housemates at university had a crash when well over limit. We had gone to the union in his car and parked it up with the agreement that my other house mate would drive him there in the morning to pick up the car. He never would normally have drunk and then driven but when hammered he had a total out of character moment and went for a spin. We didn't know he'd left and found his car (but not him) balanced on top of some bollards. He was brought home a bit later by the police. Safe and nobody hurt but certainly not very proud! Didn't get prosecuted because police didn't find him with the vehicle, they picked him up elsewhere.

I don't ever drink anything when I will be driving later as I prefer to know 100%

Agreed, drinking any amount of alchol and driving is nothing more than arrogant & selfish.

I think it's safe to assume most wouldn't consider it when sobor, but obviously drink changes everyone.

One of the main reasons why I don't take my car keys out with me if I'm drinking or don't take my car and leave it if I know I'm going to be drinking.

Normal Peerzy wouldn't even think twice about it but who knows about drunk angry Peerzy.

Best not to put yourself in the situation that drunk you has to make the decision.

I refuse to have even one drink and drive, I'm sure there's many on here who have lost a friend/loved one due to drink-driving.

Definitely.

I really can't believe the level of sympathy she is recieving from her friends like she's a victim. She's the one in the wrong. I'd be fuming if my friend was drink-driving and would tell them exactly what I thought of them.

I've not tried to provide an excuse for it (although in that particular incident, there was a very valid one), and I've said I'm not proud of it (which to me, implies that I'm unlikely to do it again), but the thread asked if anyone here (or their friends/family) had ever done it.

For the record, I see no issues in having a pint and driving.

I don't understand what you expected her friends to do? Pry the car keys from her cold dead fingers? :p

People will do stupid things, it's a fact of life.

It is really not something I'd ever consider doing, but My father thinks that it is perfectly fine to drive after 2/3 cans of industrial strength Cider. I've asked him not to do it countless times but he ignores me, so other than doing my best to keep him off of the road (offering to chaffer him about) there really is not much more that I can do.

I would literally be trying to get the keys from any of my friends that tried to drive after drinking. I wouldnt want to look back if they had an accident and say I didn't try to stop them.

I know people are free to make their own mistakes but friends are there for a reason too.

To be honest if he's been drinking that all his life he probably is, the body adapts to our abuse of it.

It won't help him when he gets banned for a year with a massive fine though. Hope he doesn't rely on the car for his job.
