Drinking the laxative drink before a colonoscopy...

im just a bit shocked to find out this as im 43 now and have never been ill in my life and this has just thrown me finding out im getting old now :)

Always upsetting to see so many members of the UC/ Chron’s team speaking out. Bleddyn and I were near enough synced in our timelines and it was certainly comforting to have contact with him as we went through it together.

Interestingly enough I’m out in America and they’re currently running a litigation program (resulting in payouts of $10M + a time) for those who have faced UC/ Chron’s as a result of Accutane which has been withdrawn from the market. Shocking to think that an acne drug may be the root of this evil for a good number of people.

I was put on Roaccutane when I was younger - about 20 years ago. I've had stomach problems for a while now... nothing severe, but I've been to the doctor about it and tried a few types of pills to no avail. I wonder if it's related and how I would go about finding out.

To enlighten this I was at a dermatologist somewhat recently quite a few months back as I used to get acne but quite bad so the pills never worked etc and they were going to put me on it until the colitis issue, they refused to said it would flare up, but they seemed more warey about the liver aspect then the colitis, alough I don't have liver problems.

Roaccutane is a harsh drug though, doesn't matter who takes it. Don't get me wrong you'll no doubt be fine with minimal side effects but with drugs like that you never know what it could spark off in the future.

And to the o.p. i've never had to drink laxative drinks before cam test, alough colitis I have isn't all the way round I don't think but a fair amount of the large bowel... I was checked last week for chrones via a mri scan of small intestine and also had biopsys etc. Thankfully they said it's all pointing at colitis. Bad enough having one, nevermind two issues.

i had to drink 2 pints of picolax, drank it then stomach was in pain, i went to the toilet had a beautiful poo, thought to myself, this stuff isnt as bad as some people think.

I WAS WRONG

5minutes later i was sprinting to the toilet just wee'ing out of my bottom.

The Doctor or what ever who was doing it said that my rectum was a bit in flamed, i turned around and said to him, Yours ******* would be if you have being going to the toilet 20 times a day for the past two!!!!

;p

your not wrong there m8.

i started at roughly 10 in the morning and i was still trotting off to the toilet at 10pm.

had my last visit to the bathroom at 4am friday and my apoitment was at 8.40 so my bum was cutting it close :)

Yeah, I was put on accutane at 15 and surprise surprise, I was diagnosed with UC a year later. I actually rang around a few clinical negligence/medical solicitors with the case but nobody seemed interested whatsoever.
