Drive - Movie Thread.

Hello Bleddyn,

Unfortunately do to the lack of screens we do not have the capacity to facilitate every film and this is the case with Drive.

However depending on how well it does we are currently looking into doing special screenings for award winning films in the future, however this is yet to be confirmed.

Kind regards,

CARMARTHEN

Is there not another cinema within driving distance (20 mins or so)

There's a tactical reason why it's not showing in 400 screens, it's paying off too.

Saw it on Wednesday. Absolutely loved it. Had a very Miami Vice/GTA Vice City feel too it with the soundtrack & pink credits. Very cool film. I've got the soundtrack now and it's so damn good! I can just listen to it all the time. The film was interesting and had a lot of good moments. Cannot wait to get it on blu ray!

A mate and i went - he thought it was a brilliant film and the best film he's seen all year without a doubt and i thought it was very good - went from 1 second being a romance to being a violent bloody film at times! :)

Carmarthen is 40 minutes away as it is

The other cinemas in our area are probably now showing I-Robot for the first time :p

Cinema is the main thing that I miss from living in Cardiff :(

Watched this the other day. Amazing film. Easily my film of 2011 so far. The gf however hated every second. She thought it was too slow at the start, didnt like the soundtrack (Crazy I know!) and thought that the violence was at odds with the rest of the film.

Seems to be a bit of a marmite job. Everyone I've spoken to about it either thinks it is the best film this year or the biggest waste of time and money ever.

I must've watched some other film called Drive, with some other Ryan Gosling in it, because the one I watched was terrible, with terrible direction, terrible acting and terrible dialogue.
In short, it was terrible.

I saw this last night, thought it was good. Its not amazing but it shows how much rubbish in on at the moment that this film stands out.

Could have done with a little more action, and its a shame that Christina Hendricks' character died so soon.

I thought it was simply a great film that still had it's flaws. For example I wish we got a better look at all the characters. Even 'Driver' himself seems a bit vague, leaving so many questions unanswered. The film sure took it's time showing every scene, that time could have been used to give us more fleshed out story (and characters). Oh well, still a great film and one of the best of the year so far, though it's been unbelievably terrible year movie-wise.

I can easily see why some people don't like this and I don't think there's any reason to call them Transformers kids or whatever. There are more movies out there besides Drive and Transformers and I bet everyone has a movie they don't "get" or like despite it getting great reviews. Drive isn't the easiest movie to like and has almost no mainstream appeal.

its trying to be like the old 60`s car movies but fails..
car sounds are badly dubbed, he`s driving back wards in one scene and there are gear changes lol

Just to belatedly add my opinion, I perhaps had too high expectations after reading all the five star reviews..

The first five minutes set the tone briliantly and I was keen to watch the rest of the film.. What fundamentally turned me off and became a huge annoyance was the stilted dialogue and interminable silences between Ryan and his 'girlfriend'. I'm sorry, no-one has a conversation like that unless you're on medication.

On more than one occasion I had to stifle a laugh as he just sat there staring at her and I'm thinking..'And? Say something!!'.. Very strange and a bit cringe inducing.

I appreciate the music, the general tone and the noir atmosphere, but I'm sorry - the dialogue and it's pacing was so embarrassing that it overshadowed all the good work done elsewhere - there was just no need for Ryan's character to be so morose.

...and I'm someone who can easily sit and appreciate a slow film, having loved almost every minute of 'Perfect Sense' last night.

I watched this last night, it wasn't what i had expected, which perhaps gave it a slight negative edge when watching.

I was a little bit split, I thought there were parts which were very well done and other parts which didn't work for me.
would have liked to have had more explained/explored in regards to some characters, I found it hard to give a damn about most of them.

I can see why people like it and will probably give it another watch when i'm more in the mood for a film like this.

I also really didn't like the music, which everyone else seems to love :p

I just watched this movie, I enjoyed it.

Not much dialogue but I guess that was the way they wanted it (mysterious, suspense), the car scenes were a little soft and needed maybe a few more 'jobs.' Christina Hendricks must've said about 10 words, wonder how much she got for that? They could've explained a bit more about the main character and see him race that track car, seemed a little rushed in the middle. I'm not entirely sure what the car outside the pawn shop was/who it belonged too.....anyway, thats my 2 pence. Finally...Carey Mulligan is just too cute!
Instantly got the OST, I shall probably be playing those retro songs all weekend, certainly had an 80s feel to the music.
